This is an original 1754 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania order for a survey of 30 acres to Samuel Brown including a small improvement. This order was 22 years before our exodus from Great Britain and during the French & Indian war.

It's in Cumberland county and adjoins property owned by Nathaniel Davis and William Moorhead in Hopewell Township. This document was dated the 16th day of August 1754 and signed by James Hamilton. The survey is directed to John Lukens (Surveyor General of the commonwealth) and also signed by Matthew Henderson which was Luken's deputy surveyor.

James Hamilton (1710-1783) was the mayor of Philadelphia and was commissioned by Richard Penn as the Lt. Governor of Pennsylvania in 1754. During the revolutionary war, Hamilton was the president of the Supreme Executive Council of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

This original, in laid paper, is in great condition for its 258 years of being out of the sunlight and only re-folded a few times.

A great item framed of which I have many with only a minor separations along the two folds on the bottom..

This is part of my 45 year collection while a registered land surveyor in many states including the state of Pennsylvania.
