Wilson Sapphire II in “unrestored” condition.

NOTE:   LEFT HAND

This piece of British guitar history was made around 1965 by a company called Wilson which was later taken over by WEM (Watkins Electric Music, London).

If you’re left-handed and looking for a something a bit unusual, either for use on-stage or as wall-art for your den, then this guitar is definitely worth considering.

As you can see, the styling is very similar to Burns guitars of the same era.

The body is similar to a Strat but its scale length is only 24.5 inches which makes it closer to a Gibson than a Fender. Weight is 7.6 lbs.

Overall condition is pretty good but it does have lots of scratches and dings (mostly caused by guitar strap buckles), but maybe fewer than you would expect on a guitar of this age.

Please don't expect this to be a museum piece - she's 40+ years old and has enjoyed life!

The 2 pickups have double-poles (some models had single pole p/ups) and they have individual tone and volume controls. There is a pickup selector switch (quaintly marked “Control”).

A couple of the pots are a bit crackly but would probably be ok after treatment  with switch-cleaner aerosol.

Strings will need to be replaced.

The bolt-on neck is nice and straight and is made from laminated maple with a truss rod, and its frets are in good condition with some wear on the first 3 frets that doesn’t affect playability.

It has the “zero fret” found on many guitars from the 60’s.

The “Left Hand Drive” transfers on the scratchplate were fitted by a previous owner, and the arm for the vibrato tailpiece is missing.

Being sold without a case.
