eBay

These are custom made adapters made from brand new parts.

This listing is for one MicroSD to RS-MMC adapter ONLY. Other items are shown in photos to indicate their intended use, but they are not included.

NOTE: The adapters I make now no longer have the white stencilled print on them as in the photo. They will be plain black instead, but otherwise identical. I will update the photo when I get the chance.

Fixed postage cost!
Unfortunately, postage is very expensive from Australia. To keep prices fair, I've made the postage cost constant regardless of location. You can buy as many adapters as you want and only pay postage cost once to make the postage cost per item more reasonable. Message me to enquire about availability.

RS-MMC cards fit into SD card slots, but they are only half the height of SD cards so they take up less physical space. This adapter is just barely taller than an RS-MMC card. You will need to buy your own MicroSD storage card and compatible device to use with the adapter :)

What can I do with this adapter?

The intended use for this adapter is for devices with an SD slot and where using an RS-MMC card will offer a physical space benefit. If you buy an RS-MMC card, the highest capacity that is available is 2GB. With this adapter and the appropriate MicroSD card you can "make" RS-MMC cards that are 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and higher, up to whatever is available for MicroSD cards.*

*Note that this is purely a physical adapter. For example, if your MicroSD card is SDHC then the resulting RS-MMC card will also be SDHC and therefore your device will need to be able to support the SDHC interface to use it. Please see the Frequently Asked Questions below for more details and explanation.

What would people want this adapter for?

This adapter is intended for devices where an RS-MMC card would be ideal (in terms of physical size) but you require more storage space than the 2GB maximum of an RS-MMC. This adapter can be used to place a MicroSD card inside an SD slot in circumstances where a normal SD card would not fit or where a normal SD card would "stick out". Some possible uses could be for:

  • Raspberry Pi systems, to save space and avoid the need for a hole in the external casing for an SD card.
  • Everdrive 64 (and similar) game flash cartridges, to have large amounts of storage without the need to cut a hole in the external casing for an SD card!
  • I also have specially made adapters for Macbook Air and Macbook Pro (click this link to see my other listings).

Build quality?

I make the adapters from brand new parts and I test every one to ensure that it is working perfectly before selling.

The adapter that you buy is not necessarily the one shown in the photo as I don't have the time to take a new picture for every adapter I make! Since I make these by hand, there may be some slightly visible sanding marks in the plastic and small variations from one adapter to the next but essentially they are all identical.

Availability?

I have a decent amount of the required parts to make these, so it's just a matter of actually doing it which is why I'm only selling one at a time. If you want multiple items, send me a message asking me how many you want and I'll let you know if I have enough parts.

Dimensions:

Height: 19mm (standard SD cards are 32mm high, standard RS-MMC cards are 18mm high)
Width: almost 24mm across the edge with the pins (same as standard SD card specification)
Thickness: 2mm thick (same as standard SD card specification)

Please Note:
If you are planning to use this in an enclosed device (and not a raw circuit board) you should check the distance that a standard SD card sticks out of your device before buying.
This adapter is 13mm shorter than a standard SD card.

Frequently Asked Questions:

If you're on this page, you probably already have a rough idea about why you want this adapter. However, if you're a bit unsure about anything in particuler relating to SD cards I have compiled some information below. Hopefully this will answer any questions and allow you to be better equipped when deciding if this adapter will be suitable for your needs.

What is an RS-MMC card?
RS-MMC are the same as SD cards in terms of their electronics and connection but they are about half the height. The maximum capacity available for RS-MMC cards is unfortunately 2GB.

Why use an RS-MMC card in a standard SD slot?
Using an RS-MMC card in place of a regular SD card takes up less physical space. This can be very useful for custom hardware such as custom built "Raspberry Pi" configurations, "Everdrive" flash carts etc. When used in devices such as these, this adapter will allow you to only "half fill" the SD slot, which could save the need for adding cut-outs in the external case that would normally be needed to allow an SD card to stick out.

Note: If you use an RS-MMC card in a slot intended for SD, you may have trouble retrieving the card depending on the casing of your device. Please make a careful choice of either the "flush" or "tabbed" adapter.

Can I use this adapter to create a 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB etc RS-MMC card?
Technically, yes. However, keep in mind that with higher capacities come newer SD interfaces (see the next question). So, if you have an old mobile phone, camera, etc. that exclusively uses RS-MMC cards then your device will probably only support standard capacity SD cards and not the higher capacity SDHC or SDXC cards. This would then probably render the adapter pointless for you because you may as well just buy a low capacity RS-MMC card.

What is the difference between SD, SDHC and SDXC cards?
SD, SDHC and SDXC are variations of SD (Secure Digital) storage medium.
- SD or SDSC ("SD Standard Capacity") cards have a maximum size of 4GB.
- SDHC ("SD High Capacity") cards have capacities between 4GB to 32GB.
- SDXC is "SD Extended Capacity") cards have capacities of 32GB up to a theoretical maximum of 2TB.

What compatibility issues should I be aware of regarding SD, SDHC and SDXC cards?
The newer interfaces (SDHC and later, SDXC) are backwards compatible with earlier interfaces.
- If your device only supports the standard SD interface, then you can only use standard capacity SD cards.
- If your device only supports the SDHC interface, then you can use SD or SDHC cards but you can not use SDXC.
- If your device supports SDXC, then you can use SD, SDHC or SDXC cards with that device.

Does this adapter handle SD, SDHC, SDXC?
This adapter is a simple pass-through. All it does is make your MicroSD card fit into an RS-MMC slot or standard SD slot (see the note above). Whatever SD interface your MicroSD card is (be it SD/SDSC, SDHC, or SDXC) is what your resulting RS-MMC card will comply to. It's up to you to ensure that your device can handle the card(s) that you wish to use with it.
