For sale is an original vintage MOS MCS 6502 microprocessor.

The date code on this chip is 3875, or the 38th week of 1975.  That would put its date of manufacture between September 15th and September 21st of 1975.  Thus it would be among the earliest of these legendary chips ever made, possibly part of the first run.

I acquired this chip about ten years ago in an electronic repair shop buyout.  It is untested as I have no way of verifying its function, so it is sold as-is.  I do not know any of this chip's history, whether it was ever used or simply kept in the store's inventory.  When I got it, it was mounted in the plastic socket pictured, and I have never attempted to remove it.  From the looks of it, the gold pins seem to be straight and intact.  The ceramic surface is speckled with dirt, mostly likely shed from anti-static foam from other chips in the box.  Otherwise the ceramic shows no obvious damage.  The gold label has quite a few superficial scratches as you can see in the photo.
