My wife and I have been collecting and selling on eBay since 1997. I have been repairing Macs since the early part of 1986, which included dozens of the 128k Macs. I have sold many older Macintosh and Newton units to fellow collectors around this small globe.
DESCRIPTION - WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION
Being offered today is a GREAT example of a 1997 Apple Newton MessagePad 2100 (MP2100), which includes wireless, OS X connectivity, and a rebuilt rechargeable battery pack.
I will supply a Compact Disk with Newton connection utilities for Mac OS classic and Windows, software for OS X which includes drivers for the Keyspan USB adapter / connection app for Power PCs running 10.5 and below and the app version for Apple intel machines running 10.6 9 and above.. For Windows you will need a PC running windows 95 to XP, there is a work around for Windows 7 on the net. With the windows machines, I don't believe there is anyway to connect through the USB port, so your machine should have the old serial port? Please note: all of the software is available for free on the Internet, I am simply providing the CD in case you do not have connectivity, or to give you a handy backup and starting point should you choose to use your accessories on another eMate or Messagepad 2000/2100. Part of the purchase price will be going to support Newton Research and the United Network of Newton Archives websites. The original Windows CD for the Avaya wireless card is included if you want to run it on a vintage compatible
The Newton itself is extremely clean, but does have scuffs on the casing and as can be seen in the pictures above. I used this one out in the field taking notes, but there is no dirt. The white specks you see on it, is lint from the cleaning cloth. The backlight works perfectly.

New Avaya (well NOS)11Mb/s Silver 64bit WiFi Card. As seen the the photos below you can connect to a wireless network and access the web. To access a network you will need a WEP 64bit wireless router, Newtons can't do WPA. I use a Belkin N150, I plug it into my wireless modem/router which uses WPA, I turn off my WiFi on the modem and use the Belkin as an access point. Your wireless modem may already be WEP capable? If not you can pick up a first generation Apple Airport Base Station for pretty cheap on eBay.
PLEASE understand, you cannot surf the Internet with this, there are pages out there you can Access, but Yahoo for example, will not load. You can do Twitter and reach some email servers, no graphics, there are several excellent web sites on those topics. I have tested this card out to a distance of approximately 150 feet from my home. This is after all a twenty year old PDA.
A Keyspan USA-28XB USB adapter for Classic Mac OS 8.6 thru 9.2.2, is included. This adapter will work with all Macs that shipped with the classic OS and were equipped with USB ports (iMac G3, Blue and White G3, etc..) The adapter also works OS X 10.2.8 thru 10.11.6 All three drivers will be included on the Compact disk.
Of course the USB adapter is not needed for any Mac older than the G3s. Requirements for legacy Macs are 68030 and higher processor, 8mbs RAM, System 7.1 and higher, 10mbs available on hard drive, and of course a serial port. If you are using a Hackintosh, I cannot guarantee it will work.
The two original interface cables are included along with the Newton connection dongle. One cable is the serial cable that connects to older Macintosh units that have serial ports (and the Keyspan adapter), the other is for older Windows Machines that have the RS432 port.
The Newton keyboard has been tested and looks great!
The vinyl Carry Case with sling does have scuffs and the "D" rings have slight corrosion as seen in the photos below, however there are no holes or rips, and the zippers work. Overall it is in good condition. Please see the photos below.
The original power supply for the MP2100, is included.
The AA battery tray for using standard AAs is included.
The
original rebuilt rechargeable Battery Pack is included. It has
NEW cells. The cells are Panasonic eneloops, the highest quality
rechargeable batteries available! They can be recharged 2100 times
and still hold 70% capacity after ten years, at 1900 mAh. The
original battery pack had 900 mAh cells. The new eneloop cells give
you 110% more usage than the original Apple battery pack, and
discharge at a far lower rate when not in use. Several years ago it
was no big deal to rebuild these packs, however it's rare to find one
now that doesn't look like the the three photos below. The contacts
become so corroded, that soldering to them results in them falling
apart.
The original Newton MP2100 CD is included.
This clean machine would make a great addition to any classic collection. It is in a far better configuration than it was when it left the factory!

Hawaii, Alaska and U.S territories will have to pay actual shipping charges, minus $22.00, that is what it would cost me to ship to the most expensive location in the contiguous 48 States.
