eBay
Betsy.

This listing is for my intrepid little beast, Betsy the Rickman Ranger.
The donor car is a 1970's Mk.1 Ford Escort, although other cars that have sacrificed themselves to the greater good include Mk.2 Escort, Fiesta, Land Rover and perhaps some others inbetween.

When i bought her nearly two years ago now, what a sorry state she was in! (Never believe a man when he says all the car will need is a couple of bulbs to pass the MOT!!) Never the less, after several pages of MOT failures and advisories and two months of hard graft, we hit the road!
We replaced the tyres, took off all the running gear and cleaned it up (with the help of a wire brush and a lot of hammerite), changed the brake pads and brake drums, adjusted the handbrake, replaced the rear leaf spring brushes and the front suspension shocks, took apart the engine and changed the plugs and leads, head gasket and changed the front lights and rear lights (to some shiny land rover ones!). Along with that, we re-carpeted the whole car and changed the front seat mounts.

Betsy was my first car- and for a 21yr old male, insurance is the thing that comes to the top of any sane persons' priority list. I went with Adrian Flux and they seriously screwed me (over a thousand pounds!!!). In my second year, i changed to a specialist kit car insurer- BAM. £250.

Betsy is currently MOTed until may (with zero advisories!!) and taxed til October; so she is ready to ride.

The only things that may need looking at are:
  • Occasionally when its very hot or cold, the starter motor doesn't quite kick in- our current solution is to just whack it with a crowbar (which can be provided), that seems to make it work no problem.
  • The heater/fan is having a bit of a tantrum, we replaced the motor but it still makes a loud funny noise. I think it may need tinkering with.
  • The fuel gauge is a little bit dodge- you just have to remember how much fuel you put in.
...And as the car is fibre-glass with a galvenised chasis, it will never rust! Hazzah!

The start price is £500, due to my reluctance to part with her.

Enjoy.
