My partner found this jacket on one of our buying trips in Santa Barbara, CA recently.  Ian Schrager, one the original partners of Studio 54, reportedly lived in Santa Barbara and owned the Miramar Hotel for a while.  We do not know if this jacket came directly from Schrager but it is a strange coincidence that the jacket was found in Santa Barbara.

We have decided to sell the jacket in order to have it in the hands of a collector or someone who has fond memories of Studio 54.  As most people know, Studio 54 was THE place to be in the 1970s and even into the 1980s.

The jacket's shell is black satin with the short collar, cuffs and waistband in a tight woven fabric that "hugs" at each one of those points of contact.  The jacket has metal snap buttons down the front and two angled pockets.  The Studio 54 logo is embroidered in large on the back and a small "over the heart/pocket" (left hand side).  On the front right of the jacket is the embroidered word "Tech" and with the logo on the left is the embroidered word "Tom".  The embroidery is a bit dingy looking in person.  The photos make the embroidery look brighter than what it actually is.  The outer shell is in very good condition but is wrinkled somewhat.

The interior is a gray fabric that has some pronounced stains all over.  The tag says "Marietta Originals Staten Island, N.Y." with a small white size tag beneath that says "Size 40".

The photos were taken in the antique mall that I work for in Santa Monica, CA.  The male form used to display the jacket is not for sale in this auction.  Nothing else is for sale in this auction but the jacket itself.

I've shown this jacket to two separate vintage clothing dealers in the Los Angeles area and they both said that it definitely dates from the mid 1970's to very early 1980's.  One of the dealers warned me against having this drycleaned as satin is not an easy fabric to have drycleaned.  They feel that if you find a very experienced drycleaner they may be able to clean the inside.  Both dealers stated that they felt that the jacket was in great condition considering the age and stains on the interior of the jacket.  The jacket is being sold as found.

I have searched online and find no reference to an employee named "Tech Tom".  However, one online interview with a previous employee mentions that each night the club had (in addition to all of the bartenders, wait staff, security and DJ) "one light man".  The following is the link to the interview (very interesting!) - http://www.disco-disco.com/clubs/studio54.shtml.  We think that this may have been a lighting tech's jacket.  How this ended up in Santa Barbara, CA is a mystery.

The jacket will be folded and wrapped in tissue paper in order to be shipped.  I have estimated the weight until I know exactly what size box I will be using for the shipping.  I will refund any difference on the shipping (if any is due) once I know the exact shipping weight/address.
