~Up for sale is a very special custom designed wrathful Tibetan Buddhist wrist mala. This is one of my most reasonably priced custom malas. In this spiritual path, things that are "wrathful" are also "protective": many of the hideous and scary wrathful deities and images are in fact protectors of the dharma and those that practice it!! All the beads used are made from bone: the main beads are 8mm and a natural white color, most likely coming from Water Buffalo. The various skull beads are larger and have been dyed in tea to give them some color and are likely Yak bone. No animals were killed to create this mala. Bones are only havested from animals who have died naturally, as these kinds of animals way too valuable in Tibet, Nepal and India to be killed for their bones. As this is my own design, I would be very surpised to find another like it on eBay. I have a matching long 108 + 3 mala in my store: please see the last eBay picture above. A portion of the proceeds from this listing with benefit Sakya Kachod Choling gompa and Tibetan Buddhist retreat center.~

"In Buddhism, wrathful deities are enlightened beings who take on wrathful forms in order to lead sentient beings to enlightenment. They are a notable feature of the iconography of Mahayana Buddhism and of Tibetan Buddhism, and other Vajrayana traditions in particular. A wrathful deity is often an alternative manifestation of a bodhisattva or other normally peaceful figure. True to their name, in Tibetan art, wrathful deities are presented as fearsome, demonic beings adorned with human skulls"
~In addition to the traditional 27 8mm natural white bone beads, (which are wider than high, a typical configuration of most bone and wooden beads), larger tea-dyed hand-carved skull beads are used as the big guru and smaller tube bead. The same kind of beads are used as the Guru and tube bead, with the tube bead being a bit smaller. There is a lot of variability in the color tone of the skull beads: some are quite dark and others lighter in color. This is typical with hand-crafted items. ALL wrathful malas must be finished with red cord only!~

~This unique wrist mala measures approximately 7 1/2 to 7 3/4 inches measuring around the OUTSIDE edge: the inner measurement will be smaller. This is a size that will fit most wrists but not very large ones. It is loose on my 6 1/2 inch wrist. It is finished with a blood red hand tied "good luck" knot. One type of deity in Tibetan Buddhism is called a Dharma protector - "usually portrayed as an enlightened being in wrathful form, a protector's primary function is to eliminate the spiritual obstacles hindering the practitioner".~
