This cross section tall ship model was specially designed & built by the plank on bulkhead method (joining multiple small pieces of wood like Rosewood, Mahogany, Teak and other exotic tropical wood together on the hull). The tall ship model is built exactly to scale as Lord Nelson's Flagship the original HMS Victory was with many details. The task required skillful craftsmen many hours to accomplish. Details of interest include ballast stones, wooden water & provision casks (barrels), detailed rigging with deadeyes & ratlines, the main-top or fighting top (crows nest), wooden inlaid decking, metal cannons and more. No plastic parts! The model rests on a solid wood base with a nameplate. The H.M.S. VICTORY was launched on 7th May 1765. The Victory's fame was due to the fact that as dawn drew near on October 21, 1805, under the British flag, she took part in the momentous Battle of Trafalgar (where Horatio Nelson flew his famous signal "England expects that every man will do his duty") against Spain and completely defeated the Franco-Spanish fleet with her powerful cannons that can fire half a ton of iron shot more than a mile. She now rest at Portsmouth, England. The HMS Victory is the oldest ship in the Royal Navy and is still a commissioned ship. You can take a tour of the ship at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
