Antique writing slope. With secret compartment holding two small drawers - see last four photos. Mahogany and brass. Date on plaque H Allwood 1861.  Looks to be all original with three lever lock - key long gone. Does not close completely flush. The leather writing surfaces would have been attached to the centre section of the box and would have folded with it but, in common with many of these slopes, this has worn through where it was attached.   Some scuffs and minor bits of veneer missing.
Looks good as it  or could be improved by polishing and minor restoration. In unusually good condition for its age of over 150 years. The mechanism for revealing the secret compartment still works very ingeniously as it should. A really lovely Victorian writing slope. height 6.5", across 16", deep 10".
