The Caverns of Mordia 2016 Special Edition Re-release—Disk, Manual—Copy #20/20

The great Wizard Pallandoin has given you a task: you must carry the Orb of Power, an artefact of inestimable value, to the beautiful Lady Elleda who dwells in the mystical land of Locklorien.

The Forces of the Night, under the Evil Spirit Sharnoscet, have besieged Locklorien, which will soon fall unless the Orb of Power is brought there.

To deliver the Orb to the Lady Elleda you must penetrate the very realms of Sharnoscet using a route that he would not expect aid to come by.

It is infested with dangers and foes the likes of which you have never battled before: Orcs, Dragons, Trolls, Giant Vampire Bats, Poisonous Gas, Balrogs, Demons, the giant spider Araneida (and her giant Webs), Cave Goblins and Serpents.

And you are never fully out of the sphere of influence of the Evil Spirit Sharnoscet – one wrong move and he may cast a devastating spell on you.

However, you may find treasure unimaginable: Gold, The Dragon Occular, The Mithril Armour (if you’re brave and strong enough to kill the four Trolls guarding it), the Charm Ring, and, if you’re bold enough to use it, The One Ring.

This could be the adventure of a lifetime…or the cause of your messy and untimely demise: dare you enter…
The Caverns of Mordia?

You are bidding on copy #20 of a limited edition run of 20 comprising a 5¼" disk and printed A5 manual for The Caverns of Mordia (both signed by the author) for the Apple ][.

The Caverns of Mordia is a text adventure game with many fantasy story elements and themes. It was written and published in Australia by Hans Coster (“Sharnoscet”) in 1980, and updated in 1982.

In 2016 Hans further updated the game to introduce new elements (including The One Ring), and he also removed the copy protection which saw previous copies posted online crash at various stages of gameplay.

The disk label and manual were laid out by me, host of the WOzFest Apple ][ enthusiasts gatherings in Sydney, Australia. The new version and manual were announced at WOzFest 5¼" on 19 November 2016. Hans has agreed to having a disk image and manual PDF uploaded to the Internet Archive, where you can play the game in-browser (and even download a disk label PDF if you want to create your own physical copy).

Attendees and participants (and a select few involved in the re-release) were provided with one each of the 20 special edition numbered copies; of the three remaining copies, one copy (#10) will be given to a randomly-selected Juiced.GS subscriber, and the remaining two copies (#1 and #20) are being auctioned to cover production costs and offset WOzFest hosting costs (any remainder will be given to Hans as author of the program).

As the winning bidder, you will receive a 5¼” disk, a 72 page stapled A5 manual and C5 envelope: all are numbered and marked as “WOzFest Special Edition” (see auction pictures). The disk label and manual are signed by Hans Coster, author of The Caverns of Mordia.

Due to the non-commercial/hobbyist nature of WOzFest, no guarantees can be offered, no returns can be accepted and all bids are final. Interested parties in Sydney, Australia are able to view the item at Crows Nest (and winner can pick up from there on completion of the auction).
