THE MONITOR IS NOT INCLUDED

I WOULD LIKE TO POINT OUT THAT IF SOMEONE ADVERTISES A IIFX, AND THE COMPUTER DOES NOT SHUT DOWN BY USING THE SYSTEM BUTTON, OR REAR ON/ OFF BUTTON, OR KEYBOARD BUTTON, THERE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE MOTHERBOARD! WHICH IS WAY BEYOND REPLACING THE CAPACITORS!

Do not bid or Buy-It-Now if you have less than 10 Positive feedbacks, or if you have even over 10 but have been on eBay less than ONE MONTH. You must contact me first or I will cancel the transaction.

My wife and I have been collecting and selling on eBay since 1997. I have been repairing Macs since the early part of 1986, which included dozens of the 128k Macs.

DESCRIPTION - WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION

Stealth

Blackbird

Wicked fast

Macintosh IIfx

Specialized RAM, a 40mhz 68030, application-specific integrated circuits, and a high speed coprocessor made the Mac IIfx a speed demon. If you are viewing this , then in all probability you know what this machine is and how rare they are becoming. If you are not really familiar with it, let me just say that it leaves many 68040 machines in the dust!

This is a STUNNING 1992 Macintosh IIfx, the fastest 68030 Mac model made! It has an Asante ethernet card. A thoroughly cleaned and inspected auto-inject 1.4mb floppy drive. It has an Apple Macintosh Display Card 8-24, the 8•24 supports standard Mac resolutions from 512 x 384 to 1024 x 768 in 24-bit colour (16 million colors) and 1152 x 870 in 8-bit color (256 colors).

The logic-board received a bath in 91% isopropyl alcohol, and the SMD electrolytic “can” capacitors were replaced with ceramic capacitors,no leaky components on the board. It has two new PRAM batteries, both tested dead-on at 3.6 volts on July 3rd 2017. It has 32 megabytes of RAM (8 x 4mb SIMMs). All ports have been tested, the Operating System was installed via an external SCSI CDROM drive.

THE MONITOR IS NOT INCLUDED

There is some slight discoloration here and there on the cases, BUT, overall the color is outstanding!!!!! Small scratches and nicks from normal handling are present over the entire unit. Most of the IIfx machines have lots of surface damage from the monster monitors they used to have sitting on top of them, but not this one!!!

Please view the first six photos below that show the worst of the discrepancies on the cases and to view specifics about the Logic Board, Nubus Cards, and SCSI2SD installation.

A 7.3 gigabyte SCSI2SD hard drive replacement, which identifies as Four separate Seagate drives (3 x 2gb, 1 x 1.3gb) is installed. I've run across few drive that have given out from platter or head wear, however many of older drives, mostly SCSI Quantums and many early Seagates had rubber bumpers for the actuator arm installed.

Now, years latter, these bumpers turn into a rubber goo which makes the arm stick in one place, and a pattern is worn into the platter (please see the photos below). The goo will eventually migrate to other areas of the drive. Repairing these drives is an “iffy” process, I've only managed to recover 40% of my drives after goo failure, and I am EXTREMELY careful doing repairs (I had 68 when I moved). The drives may run for several weeks without repair, after being removed from storage, or installed in a computer sitting in a closet for several years, however, soon the Goo Problem will surface from the heat generated by the drive operation.

Very low power consumption (you don't even have to plug in the Hard Drive power cable, it will get power from the SCSI bus), no moving parts, the ability to use high capacity microSD cards, and a smaller installation foot print that which provides better internal airflow and cooling, makes the SCSI2SD a the best thing to happen for vintage computer and electronic enthusiasts in a long time, next to the Floppy EMU (google it)! This microSD card is formatted with System 7.5.5. PLUS, the SCSI2SD does not act like a two pound aluminum “Heat Sink” which continues to dissipate heat to other components in the Mac after the computer is shut down.

The following games and programs are installed on the main drive:

  1. Apple Personal Diagnostics

  2. WriteNow 3.0 (word processor, much better than Claris)

  3. Stuffit Expander 5.5

  4. iCab (browser)

  5. Missile Command

  6. Hellcats over the Pacific

  7. U-Boat (WW II Submarine combat simulation)

  8. Space Invaders

  9. Chuck Yeager's Air Combat

The stock ROM was replaced with a ROM-inator II custom SIMM. With the ROM-inator you can boot from the ROM at startup with System 7.1. It contains a number of games and programs such as

  1. Tetris Max

  2. Crystal Quest

  3. Glypha II

  4. Zork I

  5. Same Game

  6. Paint

  7. Space Junkie

  8. TattleTech

As can be seen in the pictures, you can access the Internet, the machine has the icab browser (yes, I donated, many years ago). It is extremmmmmmmeellly slow! After all, this machine is now 26 years old, so you will not be able to watch youtube, play farmville, etc. There are many websites that will simply not load. Sometimes when exiting icab, the Mac will freeze, but only when connected to the internet, this is not a fault with the Mac, it is simply because of the age of the Operating System and Browser. I CANNOT guarantee compatibility with your network.

THE MONITOR IS NOT INCLUDED

The Apple ADB Extended Keyboard II is in excellent condition! I would say outstanding, but it is a bit discolored over the entire keyboard, BUT, still an excellent color match to the IIfx. It was machine washed (cases and keys) and thoroughly cleaned.

The ADB I Mouse was thoroughly cleaned, and works flawlessly, but has slightly discolored areas, but not yellowed, with extremely small scratches. Please view the photos below.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are going to run a SCSI chain, then you need one of the black Apple terminators (590-0695-B or 590-0705) or third party equivalent. Standard gray Apple terminators from this period will not work. There were later Apple terminators that also worked, however Apple has made a decision to drop that article from the knowledge data base, and I can't remember what the latter compatible part numbers are?

Sorry about stressing that the monitor is not included, but not stressing it has caused problems in the past.

This clean machine would make a great addition to any classic collection. It is in a far better configuration than it was when it left the factory!
