GRADING OF CYLINDER RECORDSEXCELLENT PLUS (E+) = Shows that it has been played, otherwise near perfect. Audio is clean and loud with only the usual acoustical background sound.
EXCELLENT (E) = Shows slight wear with overall good lustre. Audio is clean and loud with minimum noise. No surface faults of any consequence.
NEAR EXCELLENT (E-) = Surface shows slight minor faults such as dull looking, minor splits out of playing surface, minor plaster loss and soft scratches. Will have light noise.
VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+) = Shows wear. May have some light scratches and/or splits. Splits will not be on playing surface. Some plaster loss. Noise becoming a factor, but does not overwhelm the music.
VERY GOOD (VG) = A playable cylinder with multiple faults, noise is stronger but acceptable. Collectible.
VERY GOOD MINUS (VG-) = Major faults such as multiple scratches , digs, splits on playing surface and serious needle drops. Dull color all over. Noise still tolerable. Has been played often. Rim titles have problems. Barely acceptable.
GOOD (G) = Not really good. Almost a filler. Major multiple faults. Noise exceeds music. Used only for a rare or scarce cylinder
