Bauhinia nataliensis - The Natal Orchid Tree
This listing is for a packet of 5 seeds of this shrubby South African plant
This will grow into a 3 m shrub with gracefully drooping branches. The orchid-like flowers are small for the genus, but nonetheless several cm across and are creamy white with faint maroon stripes down the centre of each petal and as an added bonus, if one were needed, the flowers are scented. The leaves are also smaller than average and are like little green butterflys in shape.
Hardy to Zone 10, so only suitable for outdoor culture in the warmer parts of the UK. Elsewhere use as pot specimen to go out in the summer or to be used in the conservatory/ greenhouse.
Also makes a stunning bonsai tree and training can start in the first year from seed, so ideal for those impatient to see the results of their efforts.
Very easy from seed, the germination rates are very high for this species, providing the seed coat is 'damaged' to allow the seed to take on water. Full growing instructions can be downloaded via this link - Growing Instructions
