MARTIN WALTON "I moved to Ludham in Norfolk in 1958 after leaving art school in Birmingham. I was encouraged in landscape painting by Edward Seago. My early years were very influenced by East Anglian painters of the open landscape and big skies. I later became restless and needed to find a way to take my work foreward into abstaction where I could make paintings with more structure. In the 1960 `s I spent three years living in London where I could see many good exhibitions which helped to stimulate me in the direction I was seeking. After much destruction of work I made a break through which took me to where my painting is now. For me painting is not about words but that indefinable relationship between the artist and the canvas."
