           1935 CAMPAGNOLO / FB
AUTOMATIC QUICK RELEASE HUB WITH FIRST GENERATION CAMPAGNOLO QUICK RELEASE SKEWER

A piece of cycling History.
The Worlds first hub incorporating a quick release skewer and -
Tullio Campagnolo's first product.

The advert shown in the photos
appeared in Cycling 10 July 1935.
(see-http://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/components/campag-fb-comp.html )

The Cones inside this Hub are also both dated-1935

The Hub is an FB
(Frateli Brivio) Ambra Superga. This is the hub that was later to become the Gran Sport again first manufactured by FB.

The Skewer has the words -BREVETTO CAMPAGNOLO- on one side of the Quick Release end and -FB Made in Italy -on the other.

Please see hi.campy's PRIVATE home page for more information on the skewer and some great photos. (use Babelfish for an interesting translation)

Condition

The Skewer-Apart from some of the threads which need cleaning up the Skewer works perfectly.

The Hub-I have stripped the Hub down in order to inspect the internals.
The bearing surfaces inside the Hub body appear to be in good condition, so if you desire the 3 piece body can be seperated and the barrel could be carefully repolished and rechromed.

The cones do show some damage to the bearing surfaces so if you wanted to use this hub the easiest way would be to replace them but they are not badly pitted so you may be able to regrind and reharden them-not something I have ever looked in to.
The axle has an area where the threads have been stripped.
Overall though since the bearing surfaces inside the hub body are good this hub could quite easily be made useable.
