Amazingly healthy, year old, seed grown Acacia maidenii plants. Probably the only ones in the UK! Your chance to own this wonderful, rare Australian tree. Now officially an endangered species in Oz, so it's our duty to grow as many as we can. They are currently between 15cms and 30cms tall, but they grow fast at this time of year. They are nice and simple in cultivation, even though native to Australia they take all the British climate can throw at it. I've even had to brush snow off one or two in my time! To be as nice as possible to your Acacia maidenii you should offer them some winter protection but it is not absolutely essential. They are also quite drought tolerant, so if you go off on holiday for a fortnight and can't get it watered it'll still be fine when you get back.

They can grow to heights of 20-30 foot in the UK but pruning them to keep them the desired height is easy, you can literally just lop the tops off! The bark is extremely interesting, being dappled with silver, white flecks, making it look a little reptilian and it bears spikes of cream to white flowers withthe typical "pom pom" Acacia appearance. The leaves are large spear shaped phyllodes (modified leaf stalks) rather than true leaves and by pruning down the height it makes them bushier and very useful as a screen or hedge. They are great feature plants in large pots, and their rarity is great talking point.
