CLEARANCE SALE BALLOON DOG DEFLATED STARTING BID PRICE AT $0.58! NOW IT IS TIME FOR THE PUBLIC TO JUDGE THE TRUE VALUE OF THIS GIF. IN THE LAST WEEK, IT HAS BEEN PROVEN THAT THIS GIF IS BELOVED ALL OVER THE WORLD, WITH IT’S GROWING POPULARITY ON TUMBLR, AND THE MEDIA ATTENTION IT RECEIVED IN THE ATLANTIC, COMPLEX, DAZEDANDCONFUZED MAGAZINE, ARTFCITY, AND THE ITALIAN VERSION OF ANDY WARHOL’S INTERVIEW,ETC. LOVE IT OR HATE, ONE CANNOT DENY THAT IT MAY BE THE WORLD/S MOST RECOGNIZED GIF.  THE PUBLIC HAS NOT RESPONDED TO MY $5800 'BUY IT NOW' PRICE , SO I HAVE PUT THE GIF ON SALE, STARTING PRICE AT $0.58 SO ANYBODY COULD PARTICIPATE.

I/VE READ A LOT OF COMMENTS ABOUT THE CONTROVERSIAL PRICING OF MY GIF THIS WEEK AND THE COMMON ARGUMENT ON WHY SELLING A DIGITAL FILE WILL NOT WORK IS THAT ANYONE CAN DRAG THE FILE FROM THE TUMBLR PAGE AND CLAIM IT IS THEIR OWN. THERE IS ONLY ONE USB THAT I AM GOING TO SELL AND THAT IS TO THE WINNER OF THE AUCTION. HOLD ON TO THAT, LET IT SIT, AND WATCH THE VALUE GO UP (THAT IS IF THE PUBLIC DECIDES THROUGH THIS AUCTION THAT THIS GIF IS OF ANY VALUE) AND ONE DAY, YOU MAY BE ABLE TO SELL IT AT MOMA.

TO THE HATERS WHO THINK THIS IS DUMB. IT’S NOT. BECAUSE THERE IS MORE TO THIS WORK THAN JUST A DOG DEFLATING ON AN ETERNAL LOOP. SO FAR THE PUBLIC/MEDIA HAS NOT WORKED HARD ENOUGH TO EXPLORE WHAT THIS GIF IS ALL ABOUT. IT DOESN’T MATTER IF YOU LIKE IT OR NOT, BUT TO PERSONALLY ATTACK ME WHILE NOT UNDERSTANDING THE WORK IS UNFORTUNATE. I RECOMMEND PICKING UP THE BOOK, 'THE ECOLOGICAL THOUGH' BY TIMOTHY MORTON ON EBAY http://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Ecological-Thought-NEW-by-Timothy-Morton-/140851272986
, THEN DELEUZE AND GUATTARI/S “A THOUSAND PLATEAUS” http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.XTHOUSAND+PLATEAUS&_nkw=THOUSAND+PLATEAUS&_sacat=0
, THEN GO, “WOAH”, THEN AT LEAST TRY LOOKING AT THE GIF AGAIN. DOES THE GIF ALREADY KNOW THAT YOU THINK THIS IS DUMB? THEN IF YOU HATE, THAT WOULD BE THE PROPER TIME TO INSULT ME. THIS WORK NEEDS TO BE STUDIED BY SCHOLARS TO BE UNDERSTOOD, MEANING IT IS FILLED WITH LAYERS OF CONTENT AND MEANING, IF ONE FINDS IT WORTH TO TAKE THE TIME TO UNDERSTAND IT….ONE WOULD HAVE TO COMPILE AND LOOK AT ALL OF THE DATA, NOT JUST THE GIF, BUT THIS EBAY PAGE, THE COMMENT THREAD IN THE BODYBUILDER WEBSITE www.forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=163951401, MY TWEETS https://twitter.com/metadiamonds, ETC.
A BOOK COULD BE WRITTEN ABOUT THIS GIF, THAT IS, ONLY IF IT SELLS AT THE RECORD PRICE. THERE ARE ENDLESS MULTIPLICITIES. HAS ANYBODY TRIED WATCHING THE GIF FOR TWO HOURS? I HAVEN’T. BUT I COULD, AND THAT COULD BE A CHAPTER IN THE BOOK, ETC.
BUT YES, ON THE PUREST LEVEL, IT IS FUN TO LOOK AT FOR A FEW MINUTES:)

SO IT IS JUDGEMENT TIME. LET’S EVALUATE THE DATA AFTERWARDS AND TRY TO MAKE SENSE OF WHAT HAS HAPPENED IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS. THIS PARTICULAR GIF, WHETHER LOVED OR HATED, HAS EXCEEDED IT’S EXPECTATIONS TO ‘ENTERTAIN' PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD. BUT DID IT MAKE ANYBODY THINK? IT IS CLEAR IT COULD COMMUNICATE SOMETHING, OR IT WOULD HAVE NOT DRAWN ANY INTEREST IN THE FIRST PLACE.,,SO AN OBJECT THAT DOESN/T HAVE  A PHYSICAL POSITION IN SPACE TIME CAN ENTERTAIN AND INTRIGUE MANY PEOPLE WORLDWIDE CAN HAVE PERSONAL VALUE AND USE…CAN IT HAVE ECONOMIC VALUE?

WHAT IS A GIF?
from Wikipedia: The Graphics Interchange Format (better known by its acronym GIF; /ˈɪf/ or /ˈɡɪf/) is a bitmap image format that was introduced byCompuServe in 1987[1] and has since come into widespread usage on the World Wide Web due to its wide support and portability.

The format supports up to 8 bits per pixel for each image, allowing a single image to reference its own palette of up to 256 different colors chosen from the 24-bit RGB color space. It also supports animations and allows a separate palette of up to 256 colors for each frame. These palette limitations make the GIF format unsuitable for reproducing color photographs and other images with continuous color, but it is well-suited for simpler images such as graphics or logos with solid areas of color.

GIF images are compressed using the Lempel-Ziv-Welch (LZW) lossless data compression technique to reduce the file size without degrading the visual quality. This compression technique was patented in 1985. Controversy over the licensing agreement between thesoftware patent holder, Unisys, and CompuServe in 1994 spurred the development of the Portable Network Graphics (PNG) standard. All the relevant patents have now expired.

THE MOST EXPENSIVE GIF OF ALL TIME

       "Balloon Dog Deflated"                  (www.luxuryobj.tumblr.com/post/95388265108)

is a GIF animation by the net artist Michael Green, an excerpt from his tumblr GIF series "luxury.obj"

which explores the desire of class "objects" through the replication and representation of the original object,

with specific attention detailed on the essence of the object itself, through the use of various digital lighting

and texture techniques. "Balloon Dog Deflated" is an ironic re-working of the 12 foot stainless steel

sculpture "Balloon Dog" (1994) by Jeff Koons, which sold in an auction for $58 million dollars, which according to The

New York Times, claims that the sculpture is "the most expensive work sold by an artist in an auction"  Jeff Koons would

have a staff of the most skilled "employed" craftsmen to compose his work.

INFLATION vs DEFLATION
"Balloon Dog Deflated" was conceptually crafted with the same principles of the original; the digital sculpture itself was downloaded legally through a CC license, Modeled by Bassam Kurdali and Commissioned by Rob Myers (www.furtherfield.org/projects/balloon-dog-rob-myers), then processed through the 3D animation program Maya, for

treatment of the textures, and the deflation of the balloon. Like Koons, Michael Green was the CEO of the project,

overlooking every detail without ever actually having to create the 3D sculpture, or write code to produce the animation

(Maya is a commercial software program that has a team of technicians who have gone through the painstaking work to

code so the 3D animators can avoid the meta steps of the animation process and get to the essence of the animator's

intention, without having to learn code) . The deflation itself is a statement  where it is once again time to destroy the

values of the tradition of modern art and for our culture to evolve to the logical next step, the digital medium. The GIF

itself is a popular format that mainstream culture has embraced throughout webpages all over the internet, and is seen daily by

millions of people worldwide

The museum of 2o14 is the internet. The museum is in Tumblr, the most relevant "space" for the culture to see any work of art

and/or image related/unrelated; the spectator and the relationship of the image.

Physical museums, like compact discs and books

are dead. It's in the cloud now, and it is time to embrace this fact and make the essence of an art object relevant to everyday

society. As modern art has exhausted it's own frame with postmodern maximalist expression of all that was left, a new

generation of artists have found inspiration from new tools that represents their time on earth. The most innovation is

taking place in this medium, and these brilliant innovators will never have a name like Jeff Koons did 20 years ago, because

culture itself has divorced itself from relating to the concept and value of a painting. It's over. The deflation of "Balloon

Dog Deflation" represents this death, letting go of all the optimism Koons blew into it 20 years ago. It's over and it begins

again....

WHY 5,800 DOLLARS?

Jeff Koons sold his original "Balloon Dogs" through a physical auction for a record $58 million dollars. HISTORY

ALWAYS REPEATS ITSELF. Here we are, 20 years later on ebay (a digital auction) with the same artwork, created in the

medium of our times (3D animation/GIF) , about to make history once again. When you commit to buying the original GIF

file, rendered directly from the artist's computer, you will be making history, as you will have purchased the most

expensive bitmap image format in the history of mankind. What impact would this have? It would forever change the way

people around the world perceive and view the digital art medium, and give artists around the world an opportunity

to MAKE A LIVING from their own work. today's best artists are on the internet and they do it for free. Jeff Koons is

dead. If he was alive today, and made a "balloon dog deflated", he would be as poor as Michael Green and there would be

only 1,400 notes on tumblr. Without the artists like Michael Green and his contemporaries, there would be only mediocrity;

what you see everywhere else. You do not see Michael Green or care....Michael Green and his contemporaries, as relevant

to innovation as Koons was in 1994, is dead....There has been great debate about

the idea of selling image formats like jpegs and GIF's to solve this problem.

It is difficult for artists who make digital work to gain any capital from it because the

components of the work  is all in the hyperreal. Where is the object physically? No such object exists. By purchasing

"Balloon Dogs Deflated", this will change the way  image formats are valued, and open up debate of how an digital artist

can sell his or her work. THIS WILL BE A HISTORIC PURCHASE. It will receive mainstream press and open up a discussion on how digital art jpegs/GIF's/etc. could be sold and collected, just like how paintings are currently auctioned.  It will introduce the future medium to the world and connect more people to the genre of digital art.

Michael Green and his contemporaries could now support their lifestyle by selling their work to the public. Eventually this will happen, as GIF's and other image files are on their way to being taken seriously as a collector's item and would be worth a price that could compensate for the artist's hard work and full dedication to their craft. Do you want to be the one who leads this MOVEMENT???   Michael Green asks for

$5,800 dollars for this original GIF file, as an ironic symbolic price of Koon's original:)

*GIF will be shipped to the buyer within 24 hours through a USB stick, along with a COA (certificate of authenticity) UPDATE: 9.4.14 The Certificate Of Authenticity is an interactive PDF file. A watermarked JPEG version can be seen above in the photo section. The COA contains each individual frame of the "Balloon Dog Deflated" GIF, with a hyperlink attached to each frame. The hyperlinks contain haters mail, online coverage of this event, and various other data connected to the artist, Ebay, net art, and Koons. The size of the certificate is 1280x720. It will never be released to the public, even when the auction is over. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.
