eBay

The Gilera GFR is becoming a very rare 2 stroke.

As you can see, neither is in mint condition, but there is enough here to get at least one of them back on the road very quickly. Both machines are 95% complete. Both have been running in the past, but that was about a year ago when I thought I had enough time to make them roadworthy. Then I bought a Ducati, then an Aprillia and then a Triumph.... blah blah blah.... you get the picture.......

Both registered in my name, but can't find the paperwork for one of them at the mo, but will continue to look. Assume you might have to apply for it. Both have all locks working (which is half the battle with these older 2 strokes). Online workshop manuals covering this model is available on the "GeN" forum (gilera.org.uk), they're a great bunch of lads.

Neither have batteries in, so can't be seen working, so I guess I have to sell these as non runners and reflect this in the price. To be honest, last time I hooked up a power pack to both after winter, one engine had a spark, one didnt. I was only making sure both turned over, so didn't look any more into it.

Being sold as a pair so that you can get at least one back on the road quickly without the usual "project" hassle of hoping any missing parts turn up on ebay within 2 years. It's a project, but I want these back on the road where they belong, so selling the two together is the only way I'd do it.

One has new chain & sprockets, most brakes work, neither tank has a leak, 3 of the four wheels hold air, both engines have good compression, all plumbing is watertight, both oil pumps work, forks are leak free, most fairing is crack free and solid enough.
Electrics are 95% complete, basic, easily replaced with new stock & by-enlarge fully operational.

The bike with the yellow seat fairing has a SP01 engine in, with the Gilera APTS power valve (mechanical, rather than electronic). This works fine but still has the electronic Powervalve controller in the seat pod if you need it later. It's probably a pretty rare engine by itself.

These are 30 bhp machines and can only get more rare. In my opinion, the engine is as powerful as the RS125, but much more civilised. The quality of finish is much better than the RG, it's better looking than the Mito and more comfortable than the NSR of the same era. The brakes are excellent, handling is sublime and the noise is outstanding.

So I guess if they're this good, why am I selling them ??. Simple. I'm now married. It's all about losing the battle to win the war, so this is one battle I'm prepare to lose on account I've just taken delivery of a Triumph Triple. To be honest, even if both GFR's were roadworthy, they'd not get used at all.

It's advertised elsewhere, shouldn't take too much grey matter to figure out where, so the right offer elsewhere could end the auction early doors. I need the space. Will not split, will not swap. No disrespect to people that can't read properly but "no", I don't want a PS3, £100 cash or a 50cc scooter in part ex. Hope this helps.
