Schooner Pickle built in St. Petersburg in 1995 as a replica of a late 18th century fast despatch schooner. She is a replica of HM Schooner Pickle, the ship famed for her role at the Battle of Trafalgar and racing home with the news of Admiral Lord Nelson's death and victory over Napoleon's combined fleet.

Moored in Ocean Village in Gibraltar, She was sailed to Gibraltar from the UK in late 2012 where it was intended to open her to the public for historic tours, an event venue and ultimately sailing excursions. However I decided to temporarily close the ship and return to the UK to pursue other business opportunities whilst there were disruptions to trade in Gibraltar as a result of the border dispute with Spain and Gibraltar as well as the work on the new floating hotel in Ocean Village.

Although she remains temporarily closed, for further details of her history and intended use please visit:-

(Also watch the boats that Built Britain series episode 2.)

She does now require work to bring her back into sailing condition. But what a ship to sail! She will reach speeds of 11 knts, 8 or 9 under engine. She will sail at 45 degrees off the wind which is pinching her bit but she will do it. She is easy to sail. I have sailed her with just three of us. She has both tiller and wheel steer. And what a sea boat... On our last trip we had winds over 60mph and she took it amazingly... never causing us concern.

Hull - Her hull below the waterline is believed to be ok. She was hauled out in 2012 to have a new 'wormshoe' and have a new steel shoe fitted to her keel as well as any caulking and antifouling.
Decks - Her decks require quite a bit of attention. This includes some deck planking replacing, some of it has split in the sun, some deck beams replacing / repairing and quite a bit of re-caulking is needed on the deck where the planks have shrunk due to the change of climate from the UK to Gibraltar.

Sails - Her topsail was new last year, however all of her other sails (Main, Fore, Inner Jib, Outer Jib) require replacing (received quote for £13,000 for complete set.)  She has a storm Jib which is ok but marked.
Engine - Her engine and gearbox are brand new having only about 150 running hrs. These were replaced about 18 months ago as have the stern gland and cutlass bearings, mountings etc.
Electronics - she had all electronics replaced about 18 months ago including Radar & Radome, Chart Plotter, VHF, AIS, Navtex, Spare chart plotter, combined depth, log unit and windex. She has new handheld VHF also.
RIgging - a lot of the rigging was replaced immediately before the voyage to Gibraltar 18 months ago.
Spars - The mast and spars were varnished 18 months to 2 yrs ago - however the bowsprit requires attention or replacing and the rest will need surveying. Top masts are new about 3 yrs ago. The main boom needs some work where it has deteriorated in the sun.

Internally she sleeps 13 (5 berth cabin forward, 2 x berth cabin on port side, 2 x berth cabin on starboard side, 4 berth captains cabin aft with one double and 2 single berths.) She has two heads, a galley containing a cooker, microwave, sink, kettle etc. A thwartships saloon with a large table and flat screen tv.

Pickle also comes with a complete set of display boards depicting her history, The Battle of Trafalgar, Admiral Lord Nelson, Life on board an 18th century British naval schooner. She also has some historic items e.g. rope making machine, wooden barrels and buckets, tools, cat of nine tails as well as replica uniforms. She has 3 x cannons (Not proofed but are old and made of cast iron.) She has many brass lanterns, a heater. and everything needed to host a dinner on board deck.

She has a cover to protect guests from the sun and rain. New 2013. She also has two long tables and 4 x benches seating 20 guests.

I am sure there is a lot more that I could list, but check out the website www.schoonerpickle.com and if there are any further questions let me know.

I am selling her on here cheap for a quick sale as I am buying a house. I am not entering into a long protracted sale process. She is available now at this very low price but only for now. This is the opportunity for someone who wants to purchase an amazing ship at a hugely reduced price as a project and add value to her by doing the work. She for the basis of a new business venture - she was very popular as a venue in Gibraltar. She could be a charter vessel (She has a recent stability book which is unrestricted cat 0!!) This took quite a lot of modifications to achieve and gives her unrestricted sailing charter opportunities including the tall ships races.

This is a short window of opportunity to buy her as I need to release some capital now.

PLEASE NOTE *WILL NOT DELIVER - BUYER TAKES OWNERSHIP OF PICKLE IN GIBRALTAR!*
