Yonezawa J.C. Aqajanian Troy Ruttman #98 Indy Friction Racer Original. As soon as the checkered flag dropped on the 1952 Indy race the race was on for marketing of that years youngest winner at age 22, Troy Ruttman and his fast ride. Yonezawa, the japan based toy maker, rushed out this Aqajanian Special with the Troy Ruttman name on it just like the winning car without obtaining the rights to do so. Car owner J.C. Aqajanian and Troy Ruttman quickly filed suits for infringement of copyrights. Yonezawa immediately removed all stock from stores and redesigned the graphics to show Indianapolis style and Champion instead avoiding court proceedings. More commonly seen is the #98 Champion racer that took on a whiter shade than the original production.
This Rare original is exceptionally nice. Not withstanding, it does have some obvious issues commonly seen on these or later versions. Three tires are flat spotted and the racer helmet top has been touched up to cover some scraps. The friction motor turns when the rear wheels are turned backwards and also forward but slips on the axle in the forward push. It would need adjusting by someone who has the skills. Overall a fantastic highly collectible toy measuring 19" long and 7" tall at the drivers helmet.
