NutriGenie DASH Diet for Windows

Nutrient Analysis Software

Analyze your current diet and help plan future meals based on the DASH Diet…

The DASH diet is based on findings from the "Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension" a National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute-supported study that found that elevated blood pressure levels can be reduced with an eating plan low in total fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol, and rich in fruits, vegetables, and lowfat dairy products. Magnesium, potassium, calcium as well as protein and fiber are important components of the DASH diet.

Blood pressure is the force of blood against the walls of arteries. Blood pressure rises and falls throughout the day. But when the pressure stays elevated over time, then it's called high blood pressure or hypertension. High blood pressure is dangerous because it makes the heart work too hard and contributes to atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). It increases the risk of heart disease and stroke, the first- and third-leading causes of death among Americans. High blood pressure also can result in other conditions, such as congestive heart failure, kidney disease, and blindness.

High blood pressure affects about 50 million—or one in four—American adults. Some people are more likely to develop it than others. Also, many Americans tend to develop high blood pressure as they get older, but hypertension is not a part of healthy aging. About 60 percent of all Americans age 60 and older have high blood pressure.

The DASH diet eating pattern has been shown to substantially lower blood pressure without weight loss or reduced sodium intake. More recently, another landmark study, DASH-Sodium, has shown that a combination of the DASH diet and sodium reduction can lower blood pressure even more. This combination benefits those with and without high blood pressure.

NutriGenie DASH Diet software is one of the latest and most comprehensive nutrition software titles from NutriGenie with many of unique technologies and analyses, such as star rating of overall diet quality where each diet is given a star rating from 1 to 5, with 1 being the lowest in quality. Our ratings take into account the latest guidelines issued in September 2002 by the Institute of Medicine, the medical division of the National Academies.

The latest guidelines establish for the first time a range of recommended amounts (Dietary Reference Intakes or DRIs) for macronutrients — proteins, fats and carbohydrates — and also include advice on how much dietary fiber and how little cholesterol or saturated fat people should strive for to maintain good health. Previous reports from the National Research Council over the last 60 years have dealt only with recommended levels (RDAs) of vitamins and minerals.

NutriGenie Automatic Menu Generator

With this technology, the user can specify a daily caloric consumption level and instruct the program to automatically generate menus that are well-balanced and meet the desired caloric requirement. The task of menu preparation can be quite tedious to health professionals who need to recommend different diets to a large number of people; or to individual users who have to follow certain restrictive diet but don't know what and how much they can eat.

NutriGenie AMG technology removes this difficulty: with a click of a button, a well-balanced menu is freshly created each time. None of the menus are pre-generated, and with a food database of approximately 8,000 items, users have literally millions of nutritious menus to choose from.

The daily menus generated by NutriGenie, in almost all cases, are exactly at or within a few Calories of the requested caloric level. In addition, with the occasional exceptions in highly restrictive diets (below 1000 Calories/day), the menus generated are well-balanced and conform with the USDA Food Pyramid guidelines.

The DASH Diet which has been proven to lower blood pressure is low in total fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, and sweets; high in fiber, potassium, calcium, and magnesium; and moderately high in protein.  This program will help you identify if your typical intake matches these guidelines and help plan menus to meet your goals.
