This system was only used in Oklahoma: for the first 3 years at the Zoo Amphitheater Concerts (1983-1986). This system was also used at the Lloyd Noble Center (approx. 12,000 seats), Myriad Convention Center (approx. 15,000 seats), OK State Fairgrounds Arena for many concerts for approximately 12 years, and The Katt radio station beach parties downtown and in the Fairgrounds Grandstand. This sound system has covered crowds estimated between 15-20,000- very well.
The equipment is in very good condition and the system sounds great.
The original dealer cost of the system was $112,447.00
LF is comprised of 16 Altec 817 cabinets made in pairs that are hinged in the back and sit on custom made removeable steel rolling platforms. Cabinets feature fly points on the sides- near the front- upper and lower.
Each 817 cabinet features 2 Altec 421 LF speakers for a total of 32 421 LF speakers. Every speaker was working fine when removed from service in the early-1990's.
Connector panel was designed for Bi-Amp system: LF Cabinet has 3-wire twist lock jacks (in and out) with LF speakers paralleled (4 ohm LF load) and paralleled to 2 1/4 jacks. 3-wire TL allow for one 3-conductor cable to feed into the LF cabinet, then a 2 or 3 wire jumper cable from out of the LF cabinet, to feed into the Horn 3-wire TL connector, sharing the common - wire. When wired correctly to an LF and HF amp, this guarantees no mis-wiring so HF section stays protected.
HF Horns are SFW 90 x 40 degree fiberglass in custom made wood road cases with a removeable front for safe transportation. Horns are powered by Altec 291-16K 16 ohm drivers and include protection capacitors for an extra measure of diaphragm safety. Every driver was just phase tested and working perfectly. Each horn has a 3-wire TL connector in and out.
Main and Monitor consoles have been kept in dry storage in foam-lined road cases since new. Cases were recently re-lined with closed-cell polyfoam. Console pots may need some excercising. Consoles provided many years of problem-free service and were well taken care of.
Amplifiers provided more than ample power thru their years in service- especially when mated with the extremely efficient Altec LF and HF speakers.
