Georgian Campaign writing slope circa 1880 “ the real thing”

Exceptional very robust Brass bound mahogany campaign writing box with secret compartments,

The box has an adjustable mechanism to enable it to be used as a reading stand, its called a “ brass riser”, this allows book or more usually a document, to be read.

Military style, high quality brass bindings and facings, with counter sunk handles.

The brass is structured and fastened to the box with hand made iron screws, the standard of the box can be seen in the fact it has over 40 of these on the front alone.

The lock works and there is a key.

The wood is flame solid mahogany, probably Brazilian.

There area few light scratches and marks which are what you would expect in a box with real history.

It is constructed with full blind dove tails joints, the result is a box that is strong and stable.

There is a side draw.

It has full set of secret draws but I can not work out how it opens, they are there.

You will see lots of writing boxs sold has campaign ones, most probably never left the persons house and Victorian in date.

This is heavy and would be a treasure to own

50x28x19 cm weighs 13 Kgs yes 13 Kgs.
