„The word (decoupage) has a french origin and literally means "express". It's a technique for decourating with cut paper subjects.
The beginning of decoupage date as far back as the 12th century. The technique is created by the chineese villagers, who first started to use thin red paper to decorate different items.
A few centuries later, when West Europe became subordinate of the «east» fashion, the expensive polished chinees furnutires started to beautify the rich european homes. But the dealers couldn't manage to deal with the big quantity of orders for such furniture. By the appearance of the chineese polished furniture, the Venetian masters furniture were the most popular and expensive in Europe. Because they had to start suiting the requirments of the market, the Venetian masters started copying fragments of paintings
