HITACHI CED STEREO VIDEO DISC PLAYER, VIP2000R, NOT LASER DISC. this machine was intended to play CED discs, those are the same discs used in the RCA Selectavision machines. this is not a laser disc player. the RCA machines are common but this is the first hitachi machine i have ever seen.

supposedly this machine is desirable because of its ease of servicing which i can attest to. 4 screws the the entire top easily comes off. the top board can be easily moved up for access. its a service friendly design. what's wrong with this machine? don't know as i dont own a single CED disc. it wont power on without a disc and i couldn't figure out the switch combination to trick it to come on. the belt that drives the loading tray up and down is definitely melted to goo. its a belt size commonly used in generic cassette deck repair kits. the needle is present and seems intact but i have no clue how worn it is.
