The robes are in the traditional saffron and maroon colours. It symbolizes the Sangha, the community of monks, but represents the renunciation of worldly life in pursuit of the attainment of Buddhahood.

There are 5 pieces - 2 inner garments, an upper garment, an outer robe (the sanghati) and a tie.
