Elko is located on the Humboldt River in the west central part of Elko County. Elko is the largest urban area and center of commerce and government in northeastern and north central Nevada. Elko is approximately halfway between Reno/Sparks (295 miles to the west) and Salt Lake City (237 miles eastward).Boise, Idaho is 246 miles north on State Route 223.
