Georgie Read was born on Prince Edward Island, Canada. She became the first woman ever admitted to the Salmagundi Club, the oldest art club in the world. Reid was listed in the Who's Who in American Art, The World Who's Who of Women, and The Dictionary of International Biographies. In 1942, she married American painter George Barton. They spent many years in Westchester County, near the Hudson River in New York. Reid-Barton was involved in the development of the Hudson Valley Art Association. She returned to Prince Edward Island in the summers. The painting is oil on canvas. It measures 8" tall by 10" wide (20.3 x 25.4 cm). The painting is signed on the reverse by the artist's son authenticating it to be his mother's work. The painting is framed. Overall, we rate the condition as good.
