S
UMMARY:
near mint and immaculate condition solid lgold ate 18th century verge alarum pocket watch, with the rare and early feature of keyless winding for the alarum. The alarum incorporates an early use of a worm and pinion drive to allow keyless winding via the remarkably early crown to the pendant. The watch has been fully serviced and overhauled by my watch maker  and is keeping good verge time and the alarm works perfectly on a bell inside the case.

The watch in simply magnificent condition and from a private collection where it has clearly been looked after very well. Watches from this period in consular cases with no stretch marks are very uncommon today, more so even with alarum work. The movement with fine ballustar pillars and with finely made and decorated blued steel, Breguet pattern moon hands, the watch is very handsome piece indeed and further complimented with a fully engraved inner dust cuvette. The enamel dial is most unusual with no winding holes, both are to the back of the movement one for the time-piece and the second for the alarum. The watch is best described as a time-capsule in simply stunning condition.

. Mint watches in this condition, can only rise in value, given the limited supply of such items.  We are a Platinium eBay Power-Seller, so please bid with confidence.

UNUSUAL FEATURES: The watch in simply magnificent condition and from a private collection where it has clearly been looked after very well.  Watches from this period with no pin holes, excess solder filling or stretch marks are very uncommon today. The movement with fine Egpytian square pillars and equally superbly made period steel beetle and poker hands. The watch is very handsome piece indeed and further complimented by very fine condition cases. The watch is best described as a time-capsule from the 18th century in simply stunning condition.

THE DIAL: 100% mint, the original white enamel dial with black Roman numerals in stunning condition with no chips or hairlines. Finely made blued steel hands, a work of art to see, beautifully cut and polished. The bullseye glass in very fine condition. Diameter is 51 mm.

THE MOVEMENT: 100% mint, with richly gilded full plate in wonderful condition. The well engraved and carved rococo style double footed balance cock and foot in superb condition with foliage. The back plate with further decoration and a gilded Tompion time regulator plate with finely pierced and engraved additional plate. An uncut three arm brass balance, verge escapement with flat hairspring and fusee chain and fusee barrel. The watch is keywind, comes with a key and is ticking very strongly indeed and movement size is 42 mm diameter. The movement with ballustar pillars. Polished steel movement bolt with its original blued steel screw. Pierced gilded fusee stop work with iron hinge. The movement with several high quality early features. These consist of the highly decorative and gilded work to top plate, elaborate balance cock, and the mainspring set up is under the dial via a delicate click system, and a separate barrel for the alarum. Most interesting is the early use of the worm pinion drive as part of the keyless work for setting the alarum. The finely blued screws are original. The watch comes with a watch key and the watch runs the full length of the fusee chain.

THE ALARUM: 100% mint, the mechanism is clearly shown in detail below in several images. With the contrate wheel attached to the rear of the dial via a slip washer which also keeps the alarm steel hand securely in place. Alarm hand setting is accomplished via the winding crown to the pendant. The alarm mechanism is wound via the upper winding steel square at 11.00. The winding through a hanging barrel and alarm sounding on a bell inside the back cover as shown.

THE CASE: 100% mint, consular 18k gold case measures 58 mm outside diameter. The three knuckle case hinges are in very good order, with the case covers closing tight and like-wise the inner case hinge also closes tight. The pendant and very well made and bow, in superb condition. The case with no stretch marks and most unusually with an elaborate crisp engraved work all over the inner dust cuvette. The rear cover with minor wear as expected, the work having been done very well. The case of a reasonable gauge and a good weight and feel in the pocket. The case with the town and assay mark in a diamond for Paris 1780-1800and a further case maker mark, now difficult to read and number 9261

This is a very fine Georgian period antique in simply stunning condition, which is a very rare collectable item or a possible investment for the future or of course a fine gift for a birthday, anniversary, wedding etc.
