After I am done sculpting her face with the wool, I unravel some of the fur that she was made from and root the fur strand by strand back into the wool. This gives a very realistic appearance.
Her nose is also felted of wool. It is done all in one piece with the muzzle. The nose is then sanded and sealed many times, and then painted and sealed many times to create a realistic nose.
These are my own techniques created by me.
She has a plastic armature spine that runs from her head down to her tail. This spine allows her to move her head up and down with ease. She also has the same plastic armature in her arms. The armature can be bent over and over again without fear of breaking.
She has traditional joints in her shoulders and hips.
Her legs are jointed from the inside at her knees and ankles. This is something I have been working on this past year. It allows for a more natural deeper bend then I could achieve with the plastic armature.
Clair has an open/close mouth. She can open it a lot or a little, and fully close it. Her teeth are made of resin, and her tongue is made of polymer clay. It is in a fixed position.
When I look at bear cub photos I see they often stick their bottom lip out when their mouth is opened, so for that reason I have set her teeth back just a bit.
