This is a Classic Vintage Torsion
Balance Scale Style 4555.
We
are pleased to present you a vintage torsion balance scale for your consideration.
The Torsion Balance company was established on September 7, 1897. The Corporation
had its principal place of business at 92 Reade Street, New York, NY, and a plant
in Jersey City, NJ until May of 1949 when both the New York office and the Jersey
City plant were moved to New Jersey as part of a new factory which was erected
in Clifton. The company has continuously manufactured and sold Torsion Balances.
The principal markets for the Torsion Balances were retail druggists, who used
them in compounding prescriptions, and users who needed a precision weighing device
that could be used under the adverse conditions.
The
scale is made of metal and painted in white enamel. The model style was release
by the company in 1916. It has it's original pans intact. Made by The Torsion
Balance Co. in New York. Style 4555 with serial no. B59697. Capacity is 1 lb and
Made in USA. Measures 12 inches wide, 10 1/2 inches tall and 6 inches deep. Total
weight is 11 lbs and 14 oz.
The
scale is in working condition. The paint on the enamel has a chipped paint on
the upper left corner (please see picture). Pans has a nice patina on it. Overall
it is in very good condition.
