RARE O-SCALE/GAUGE TIN-LITHO SAN FRANCISCO TROLLEY CABLE CAR

"Welcome Friends"

 Operator

NOTE: Did you know that tin lithograph toys go through a painting process 8 times for each color painted onto the toy? This one has 6 colors, and while the paint does show some light fading on one side it is in remarkable condition.

Up for your consideration in our Ebay listing is this Super Rare Vintage Bell Ringing Pull Back  Friction Wheels Tin-Litho O-Scale/Gauge Replica Model of the "Powell & Mason, Bay & Taylor, Powell & Market Streets" service of the San Fransisco Municiple Railway Trolley Cable Street Car. This is a very detailed rare 98% to 99% all metal & (HTF)  hard to find Tin-Litho friction model of the real thing from the faux wood plank look lithograph seating, all the way down to the lithographed lettering, wording, and logo's. There is a lithographed  Conductor/Operator on the back window of the unit wearing his uniform with his back turned to traffic behind him, also litho-ed into that window is the shadows of passengers, and below that are the Bay & Taylor and the Powell & Market Street service signs and headlight.

I don't know the age of this item so I'm guessing circa 1950's to the 1970's, but I can tell you it's as about as close to the real thing as you can get in detail with a metal tin-litho design. It's in  Excellent Condition for it's age, whatever that may be, I do not know. This is a VERY RARE O-Scale/Guage size Trolley/Cable Car with a  green roof & main body. There are beautiful lithograph red pin-stripes around the roof & upper vents. The marqiue sign says Powell & Mason Sts. on one side of the unit, and Bay & Taylor Sts. on the other side. It has forest green side panels, and white lithographed victorian style era porch post grab railings with the unit #512 on both sides, and down below it says San Francisco Cable Car in black lettering. The floor of the cable car & seating are faux-wood  / lithograpgh. The front panel is forest green with blue tinted plastic  window inserts, and on the roof above is the trolley bell. (Ring-ring-ring goes the trolley, ding-ding-ding goes the bell)  There are yellow/orange service area signs on the left & right sides that say in black lettering Powell & Market Sts. &  Bay & Taylor Sts. which are the main cable car service to the World Famous Fishermans Warf: The front of the car has faux tan wood frame windows, and the rear of the car has an open door walk out.

No longer in production as far as I know, so you don't want to miss out on this oppertunity. The friction tires are rubber and they seem to have hardened up over time with some wear noticible. The firction unit may be sprung or need to be oiled, but the BELL-DINGER works when rolling the unit. The bell ringer & friction unit is inside the cable car and hidden on one side by blue window plastic inserts just like on the front of the unit. One side has no window inserts at all. Marked Made in Japan it's circa 1950's or mid-60's perhaps 70's I'm not sure. This would be a great addition to any tin-lithograph trolly, cable car vintage toy, and train collection, and with a description like that put to the letter,  what have you got to loose on a great looking display piece, or back drop unit for your O-Gauge train layout~? The single-ended Powell Street cars are the older of the two types now in service. There is the California Street Cars, and the Powell Street Cars. The Powell cars have one open grip end there are two of these ends on the newer California Street design cars. There are turntables built into the street to turn the car around at the ends of the Powell-Mason and the Powell-Hyde lines route. This type of car is a scaled down version of the large combination cars developed in the early 1880's by Henry Root for the Market Street Cable Railway. Called the "combination car" it combined the open grip dummy and closed car train into one car (in some cases the enclosed section was a former horse car/carriage). The Ferries and Cliff House Railway began service on the Powell-Mason line in 1888. Some of the original F&CH cars (extensively restored, and rebuilt) are still in use today. The combination car concept was popular in other cities as well; the cable car railway systems in Oakland, San Diego and Portland, Oregon also used combination cars.
