Alexander McDowell McCook

Alexander McDowell McCook (April 22, 1831 - June 12, 1903), Civil War Union Army general, authentic, autographed vintage brief handwritten letter.  Among other Civil War commands, McCook commanded all forces in defense of Washington at the Battle of Fort Stevens.

The letter is dated September 6, 1873 and measures approximately 3 x 6.25 inches in size, though it has been inset to a 5.5 x 8.25 inch sheet.  This letter has been written on the verso of a portion of an official general orders, No. 131.  The letter has been written in an unknown assistants hand and signed in fountain pen by McCook. Thie piece is in excellent condition considering its age.
