1934 Cadillac 355D Town Coupe

1934 Cadillac 355D Town Coupe

VERY NICELY APPOINTED ORIGINAL PRE-WAR CADILLAC! GORGEOUS COLOR COMBINATION WITH EXCELLENT INTERIOR WOOD TRIM AND UPHOLSTERY! ONE OF ONLY 5,080 PRODUCED! CCCA FULL CLASSIC!

By the beginning of the 1930s, Cadillac had established itself as a premium automaker. Cadillac was the first automaker to mass-produce V8s, which became standard equipment in 1915. Their L-Head (side valve) design was very powerful and exceptionally smooth in an era when noise, vibration and harshness were prevalent. Continually refined and enlarged, the motor in its last iteration would find itself in the Series 355. The motor was so good that it was voted to Ward’s 10 Best Engines of the 20th Century list. As a successor to the Fisher and Fleetwood bodied Series 353 cars, the 355 was introduced with the same 353 cubic inch motor but with a lower and wider profile. With the belief that the best remain the best by continual improvement, Cadillac updated the 355 every year and systematically moved their way through the alphabet. By the fourth year of production, the Cadillac 355D was available in six body styles and boasted many improvements over the previous year. Specific and newly updated for the 1934 were the division of the 355 line into three sub-categories, dubbed the 10, 20 and 30. While the Fleetwood-built 30s were meant to emulate the V12 and V16 halo cars, the Fisher-bodied 10s and 20s were responsible for increasing brand appeal for buyers looking at full-size V8 luxury cars. Comparing a 1935 355E to a 1931 355A, differences extend beyond cosmetics. In addition to better body panel insulation, necessary objects that formerly used to protrude were tucked into the engine bay. The majority of the front end was inspired by the aerofoil design. The new body rode on a new chassis that was lower, horsepower increased to 120 and a new fully independent front suspension design was implemented.

We are thrilled to offer this 1934 Cadillac V8 Series 10 Town Coupe. Finished in striking Sable Black, this 128-inch wheelbase coupe glides down the road on its red wire wheels with black shields. Hiding behind those wheels are standard four-wheel vacuum-assisted mechanical drum brakes, also newly introduced for 1934. In addition, this Cadillac features a beautiful Dove Gray Mohair and Cord interior, rear-mount spare (complete with shield), chromed hood louvers, exhaust turn-down, Lester 6-ply whitewall tires, trumpet horns, cowl vent, front and rear vent windows, rear window shade and armrest and, of course, the beautiful 1934 Cadillac hood ornament. While the mileage, interior and glass appear original, we do not have enough evidence to support this. As one of only 5,080 units produced, you would be hard-pressed to find one that looks this well maintained.

Lovingly owned and driven by its previous owner, this 355D Town Coupe is sure to impress wherever it is driven or shown. These are becoming increasingly hard to find in this condition and this car drives, brakes, turns and shifts with distinct crispness. Please feel welcome to call with additional questions or to schedule an opportunity to see this great Cadillac in person! We look forward to working with you!
