This wonderful piece of French history is an antique French piquee ( pique)  / quilt section from Provence which dates c1820~ A wonderful textile, lovely and large! This textile is two sided. One side is an extraordinary resit dyed and block printed paisley design. Wonderful blue, madder red and a lovely dark sienna addition with hand carved wooden blocks. The opposite side is a true Ramoneur print ~ ~This fabric is called Ramoneur print which uses the lovely warm brown toned ground, wonderful small scale design very popular in the early 1800's.. These fabrics were used for furnishing and clothing fabric as they were easier to hide dust!~ the brown dyes and mordants used were very hard on the cottons and because of this, these fabrics don't tend to survive as well as others and are much more rare to find. Both sides are 100% medium weight cotton , hand printed ~ This piquee is 100% hand quilted and hand stitched. There is a light cotton batting between the two layers. A very very rare size to find in these textiles, Beautiful textile, rare and wonderful indeed! ~*~   ~

MEASUREMENTS:  This lovely quilt measures 108 inches by 90 inches ~ 9 feet by 7.5 feet! So wonderfully large

CONDITION: I have gently hand laundered this textile. The back ( Ramoneur brown printed side) has many many fractures, holes  and wear spots in particular near the middle ~ the corners are in generally good condition! ~*~  This is the normal case of these antique textiles that the " back" side receives the most wear, also owning to the nature of the Ramoneur printing technique, this side has not survived in good condition so should be considered the back! ~ The "front" paisley side is in wonderful condition in particular for it's age! ~There are some small marks, and this side is unevenly faded with time in areas ( please see photographs). The sides and corners of this quilt have some wear to be expected.  There is nothing whatsoever that would stop me from using this textile as a bedding quilt and this quilt will be cherished by anyone that adores the signs of time and use that these textiles often offer ~*~

Please email me if condition is vital to your purchase and we can discuss condition in detail. When describing my textiles, I use my best judgment, knowledge and experience to estimate their age. I have had many years of research and hands on experience with these wonderful textiles. I describe items as Antique if I estimate the age to be 100 years of age or greater. EBay currently define an antique as dating to 1930 or earlier. I describe items as Vintage, as per the dictionary definition, if I feel the textile has age, or is outdated or old-fashioned, dating from the past. If I use both Antique/Vintage when describing a textile, it is because I feel the textile is most likely 100 years of age or greater, but may fall just short of that date. I often work in collaboration with other colleagues and textile specialists to ascertain the approximate age of my textiles, however ultimately any statement of age is a matter of best judgment only~*~I also use my best professional judgment to ascertain the fiber content of my textiles, using sight and feel and where possible historical information and context to help me to identify plants used in a particular era. However, because my textiles are old, any statement of fiber content is again always only my best professional assessment. ~*~ I feel privileged and honored to bring these textiles to you, I sincerely thank you for your interest ~*~
