This book treats the network merge of the two companies Tiscali Austria AG and Eunet AG. The network structures of each firm and their points of presence are shown and described. Afterwards, the structures are merged and the actual backbone network is created with all details. Because of the rising amounts of data running over such big networks of ISPs it is necessary to deal with quality of service which is a main point in the course of the fusion of the networks. The work I did during the first five months was to develop a tool to manage the IP addresses which are already assigned for use of customers or in the backbone network so that no subnetwork can be used twice. While thinking about what this assay should contain there was an offer to me helping to configure quality of service in the new backbone network. I had never mind that it could be so important for a big network to provide certain services for sure. It was a very big challenge for me to do that and to learn how the mechanisms of QoS operate.

Andreas Poiß started his career in the IT business with a jobduring the study at the "Fachhochschule" Wr. Neustadt at Tiscali.Afterwards he moved to another Austrian ISP called eTel AustriaAG. He began to maintain and (re-)design the IP/MPLS backbonenetwork. As a consultant at NextLayer he did this job also forthe Bundesrechenzentrum (BRZ).
