Bezalel Silver Plated Teffilin Cases By Ze'ev Raban, Jerusalem, 1950's.

Beautifully chased with various scenes including David's Tower, The Western Wall, Yad Avshalom and Rachel's Tomb, all surrounded by scrolling foliage ornaments.
The upper section is decorated with a Star of David (Magen David), inscribed in Hebrew in the center "Rosh" (Head) and "Yad" (Hand), indicating this teffilin case is used for the head / hand.
All the scenes are titled in Hebrew and it is also inscribed "Mazkeret Yerushalim" (Jerusalem Souvenir) above one of the scenes.

Wolf Rawicki, later to be known as Ze'ev Raban, was born in Lodz in 1890.
Raban reached Eretz-Israel in 1912 and joined the staff of the Bezalel School in Jerusalem.
Raban's acquaintance had been with a European Symbolism that was international, equivocal, and often personal.
In Eretz-Israel he created a "Hebrew Symbolism" that was national and carried a clear message.
He developed a visual lexicon of motifs based on Jewish designs and topics, and to these he added his own Hebrew calligraphic script and other decorative elements, to form what was to become the "Bezalel style".
