A Precsription for Foreing Travel

A rare Guiness Doctors' book from 1966. Written by Paul Jennings and illustrated by John Astrup.

The Doctors' books were produced for Guinness every Christmas between 1933 and 39 and again between 1950 and 1966. They were distributed solely to selected G.P.s as a way of gently nudging them towards disseminating the idea that the black stuff could be taken as a tonic. The slogans 'Guinness is Good for You' and 'Guinness for Strength' had dominated the company's advertising from the 1930s.

Leading writers and illustrators of the day were commissioned including such well-known artists as John Nash, Edward Ardizzone, Rowland Emett and Gerard Hoffnung.

The issue on offer here - from 1966 - just shouts the decade in which it was produced. As the last Doctors' Book ever published it's highly sought after by collectors.

It is in excellent condition; with minimal signs of wear. It measures about 17cm by 24. As with all official Guinness advertising it is printed with identifying serial number on the reverse.

Payment and Postage

Paypal is accepted and I do not add a surcharge to cover their fees. UK buyers only may also pay by cheque or postal order. If it's a cheque, please allow 7 to 10 days for it to clear.

All buyers please make contact within 3 days of auction. Payment is required within 7 days.

Non-payment

All non-paying bidders are, without exception, reported to eBay. This is not for the sake of being vindictive, but because eBay charges retrospective fees calculated on the actual sale price of items and this money needs to be retrieved. It's hard enough to make ends meet on here as it is! Thank you for your understanding. Please refer to eBay's policy on non-payment for more information, including its ramifications for the bidder.

Condition of items

Please note that, unless clearly stated otherwise, my listings are for vintage/antique items and therefore, by definition, are not going to be in the same condition you would expect from a brand new item. Please be assured that I always endeavour to offer the most accurate description possible of the item's condition and take multiple illustrative photographs.

Vintage electrical items

Unless clearly stated otherwise in the description, vintage electrical items are sold in their original condition so should be safety checked by an electrician before use.

Returns

Returns are possible, if reported within 7 days and by prior arrangement, if a mistake has been made in the listing and the item is not as described, but for no other reason. I'm afraid that straightforward buyer's remorse does not qualify and the cost of return postage is not included in any refund.

Thanks very much for taking the time to read this. If there is anything I haven't covered please don't hesitate to contact me.

Best of luck bidding!
