Installation tips
  1. Depending on how hard your soil is, separate each sod staple between 1-5 ft. For extremely soft soil, separate each staple by 1 ft. For extremely hard soil, separate each staple by 5 ft.

Features:

  • GALVANIZED 9 GAUGE CONSTRUCTION: 20% thicker than standard 11-gauge landscape staples. For steel products, as the gauge decreases, the steel increases in thickness. The 9-gauge steel reduces the likelihood of bending during installation and the galvanized steel keeps the staples from rusting
  • MAJOR IMPROVEMENT: Sandbaggy Landscape Staples are more than TWICE as thick and 2 inches longer than staples sold at hardware stores like Home Depot & Lowes. Thicker and longer staples will not bend as easily during installation and hold down fabric better especially in high wind areas. Staples sold at hardware stores are typically 16 gauge compared with our 9 gauge staples (as the gauge decreases, the steel thickness increases)

If you're curious, here's the difference between round top and square top sod staples:

For some of us who aren't sure what a square top sod staple means, it is the type of sod staple with a flat top. Meanwhile, round top sod staples are rounded at the top.

So the difference is the uses of each of these sod staples. Our square top sod staples are typically used for securing landscape fabric, weed barrier fabric, dog fences & electric fences, controlling weed, securing synthetic turf, and holding sod.

Meanwhile, our round top sod staples are typically used to hold down irrigation pipes and PVC pipes.

How to figure out what Gauge & Size of Landscape Staples (Sod Staples) should one buy?

To start out, we will discuss the differences between gauges in landscape staples. On the Internet, you’ll find landscape staples that are 8 to 15 gauge. The lower the gauge, the thicker and stronger the metal. Currently, we sell 8 gauge, 9 gauge, and 11 gauge landscape staples. Our 8 gauge landscape staples are primarily used for compacted soil, while our 11 gauge landscape staples are used for looser soil. If your soil is compact, it may be a good idea to purchase lower gauge landscape staples so that the staples does not snap while you are hammering it into the ground. For most applications, our 11 gauge sod staples will work.

Regarding the size of the landscape staple, the most common size is 6" x 1" x 6". If your soil is not too compact and not too loose, this size will suit your needs. But if your soil is loose, it may be a good idea to purchase landscape staples that are either 9" x 1" x 9" or 12" x 1" x 12", which will ensure that the landscape staple does not move after installed into the ground.
