Euphorbia tirucalli,  this is the variety who turn almost red at the top in winter when is exposed to full sun, is native to tropical eastern and southern Africa.

Common name: pencil cactus, pencil tree, fire on stick.


Light: Bright light or sun; pencil tree needs all the light you can give it.


Moisture: Water only when dry. The tirucalli thrives as a houseplant in the driest atmosphere with ordinary soil, water, and feeding. E.tirucalli is highly drought tolerant.
Hardiness: USDA Zones 10B - 11.  cannot tolerate freezing temperatures. In tropical and subtropical clima, is highly salt tolerant and is often grown in gardens near the beach.

It can be trained and shaped to grow in endless patterns.  tirucalli  makes a great houseplant and is easy to grow. is one of the African "fish poison" trees. When branches are macerated and placed in a stream, the juice will stupefy fish, enabling fishermen to catch them easily. Pencil tree has been used as a source of latex. always be carerfull when latex is present by cuttings or any a damage branch, latex is irritant and must be avoid contact all times.
