Are you tired of your refrigerator not cooling your food and drinks like it should?
What you need to know:
A RV refrigerator doesn’t use a compressor, instead uses heat - either from an electric heating element or an LP-gas flame. The heat starts a chemical reaction, and evaporation and condensation cause the refrigerator to cool.
The heat created by the cooling process is vented within a narrow space behind the refrigerator. Air enters through the outside refrigerator access panel and moves the hot air out through the panel or roof vent. That creates a dead air space directly behind and above the refrigerator and trap warm air, drastically reduce the draft effect.
Most RV models produced after 1990 need a Fan and a control switch (thermostat) to increase the airflow on the back of the refrigerator.
The problems with a FAN CONTROL SWITCH (Thermostat)
Some folks try to sell an 80º, 90º or 110º F switch. This is about the temperature behind the back panel on a sunny day - your fan will run 24 hours on a hot day... (useless waste of precious battery power)!
Others sell a 150ºF switch, this is too hot before the fans coming ON - the fridge is not cooling right...
I prefer when the fans come ON at about 130ºF. The switch (thermostat) is easy to replace, just remove the two wires from the old switch and attach them to the new switch.
