Ocotillo Seeds, Fouquieria splendens, Jacob's Staff, Vine Cactus Desert

Mature seeds of the Ocotillo plant Fouquieria splendensCommon names: Candlewood, Candlewhip, Slimwood, Coachwhip, Vine Cactus, Flaming Sword, Jacob's Staff

This is a beautiful plant that grows well in warm areas. Requires very little water once established and adds an exotic look to any landscape.

These seeds are fresh and were just harvested from my own ocotillos that I grow in my yard. There are pictures of the plants showing my seed harvesting bags attatched.

The seeds of the Ocotillo drop between May and mid-June and are wind dispersed. Seed viability is 90%. The flowers of the Ocotillo remain in bloom for 50-60 days. The pollination of Ocotillo relies heavily on migrating hummingbirds from Mexico, northward toward western mountain ranges. Other than hummingbirds, bees also play a role in pollination.
