• Operating Current: 12 VDC <5A nominal, 20A maximum. Pump MUST be protected by circuit breaker or fuse - 12V pump 20A. A fuse or circuit breaker will protect the pump from permanent damage in case of rotor-lock from ingesting foreign debris. Note “nominal” means the typical current in a typical installation as a scavenge pump with a free-flowing output. When the temperature of the oil is very low, the oil’s viscosity is much greater, and the pump will consume more current until the oil warms up. The fuse or circuit breaker current value takes into account the additional current needed for pumping oil at low temperatures. As a pressure-pump, the pumps are rated min. 50PSI. Exceeding any of these ratings will void warranty. (50-75PSI operation range is possible, but not guaranteed or warranted).
• Two-year Warranty - warranty void if pump is modified, or current ratings exceeded. Warranty only for genuine TurboWerx products purchased from TurboWerx or authorized resellers. No user-serviceable parts within the pump, warranty void if pump is opened. Do not remove or replace ANY fasteners. Warranty and terms of sales.

Exploring the Details.

350F Fluid Temperature. No other pump comes close. All the materials used in the engineering of this pump were chosen to support extreme duty at extreme temperatures - constantly

2-3 GPM Pump Rate. Most other pumps have a specified rating of <2GPM. The Exa-Pump's® 2-3 GPM of open-flow (0-PSI) gives the ability to easily scavenge from any turbo type or configuration, including the full flow twin turbo set-ups, or serious supplemental engine oil and/or transmission/rear-end fluid circulation through external radiators. This is also enough flow for coolant circulation in air-water intercooler systems. And finally, these pumps can generate 50 psi minimum pressure at reduced flow-rates, thus can be used in divorced turbocharger oil supply pump applications as well.

Hardened Bronze Gear Pump Rotors. Bronze spur gears create the toughest, most rugged pump head available. Gears are angle cut for quiet operation. All engine manufacturers use either gerotor or spur gears for their oil pump. Exa-Pump® uses the same ultra-reliable technology

10,000 Hour Rated Dual Ball Bearings. No other competitor's pumps use ultra-precision, ultra-high-temperature ball bearings - ALL the others use cheap, commodity, made in China 2000-2500 hour ball bearings, or worse yet, 1000 hour bushings. High temperatures drastically reduce these numbers further. This is a fundamental limit on pump life. Exa-Pump® uses a dual set of expensive 10,000-hour rated ball bearings.

10,000 Hour Rated Over-sized Brushes. Exa-Pump® engineers designed in over-size brushes to increase brush life to beyond 10,000 hours. The competitors have settled on cheap, commodity <2000 hour parts.

Black Anodized Extruded Aluminum Heatsink and Bracket.
The newly designed heatsink and mounting bracket are now integrated into one very strong functional unit. The heatsink/bracket design allows the pump to be easily rotated to any position across 360 degrees for optimal port placement for any application.

Nickel-plated Pump Head. Nickel-plating serves as a tough, anti-corrosion barrier for the pump head.

Stainless Steel Pump Head Fasteners. Grade 12.9, corrosion-proof stainless steel Allen fasteners are used exclusively for the pump head assembly.

3/8" NPT F Threaded Pump Head Ports. Industry standard port sizes used.

AN Male Nickel-plated Adapters. Two AN->3/8NPT fittings included for convenience. -6AN, -8AN, or -10AN can be chosen. (If no choice specified, -8AN are provided.)

Hi-Temp Wiring. High-temperature rated wiring to support extreme environments.

Weatherproof Connectors. Standard GM WeatherPack connectors.

Rubber-isolated Mounting Bracket. Exa-pumps® use a strong steel bracket with rubber isolation mounts with an industry standard footprint for easy upgrading of existing systems.

Low-vibration, Quiet. The pump head gears are precision, angle cut. The gears are sized to reduce the motor's RPM. This results in much quieter operation, with far less vibration than the competitor's.

Power Requirement. The pumps have a wide operating range of 0% to 150% (50% over) of rated (nominal) voltage. All specifications assume a nominal Voltage. Current requirement is typically <5 Amps. Application must use protective safety fusing or circuit breaker.

Size. The Exa-Pump® length is 6.2" long, with a 4.1" wide mounting bracket, and 3.85" diameter motor/heatsink. Mounted height is 4.1". The Exa-Pump® occupies a smaller volume than all the competition. The weight is 6 lbs.

2-Year Warranty. TurboWerx offers a special 2-year extended version of our limited warranty on the parts against defects in materials and workmanship for the Exa-Pump® products. Virtually all others do not offer a warranty of any kind, let alone 2 years. Pumps that are returned under warranty claim must be inspected and analyzed at Turbowerx in accordance with our warranty

A Totally New Standard is Set.

Every detail in the Exa-Pump® design has been scrutinized and engineered for performance far exceeding any existing pump. The net result is a pump with 2x the performance and 10x the reliability of competitor's best offerings. The Exa-Pump® is the final statement in turbocharger electric scavenge pump technology. It is simply the best.

PROTECTION: Don't forget to ensure clean, filtered oil entering the pump by utilizing our filter solutions in our other listings, such as our Exa-Pure™ inline filter.

CONSUMER WARNING:

Be extremely wary of any cheap gear pump offered up for sale purporting to be a "turbo" oil scavenge pump. Identification is easy - they are black with brass pump heads, or are painted all white or blue. These are ALL cheap Chinese-made cold-water pumps! They are simply re-labeled (or un-labeled) marine, intermittent-duty TRANSFER pumps - TOTAL JUNK - and totally inappropriate for this critical application. $1200+ turbo(s) at risk from a cheap Chinese-made WATER(!) pump. These are commonly available throughout the world, especially on eBay - eg, seller gkwholesale who has now recently resurfaced as wholesalegk. The latest source for this Chinese garbage is ebay seller kap_distributors. These are the same failure-prone types sourced by STS, RB RACING, etc.  Regardless of what these sellers claim, these pumps will fail prematurely. We see it constantly - once or twice each week minimum. And no wonder - they are NOT even designed to run continuously, and all are specified to a maximum of 170-185F (WAY too low for turbo drain oil, and which is why none of these sellers specify the operating temperature nor where its made). These are some of the reasons TurboWerx had their pumps custom designed by the actual pump manufacturer engineers with all the proper materials and components, specifically for this application. Half of TurboWerx pump sales are from customers who are replacing a failed competitor's pump, and more importantly, most of these suffered turbo damage/failure, and even engine damage. The difference in price for a properly designed pump is absolutely trivial compared to the risk. If you have the opportunity to inspect or open up any other seller's pump - regardless of their claim otherwise - you will find "China" as the manufacturing origin. Please do not just take our word for it...do your own on-line research on the TurboWerx Exa-Pump, and contrast this with the disastrous results of utilizing the cheap water pumps for turbo oil-return. You have been warned.

TurboWerx continues market dominance year after year, and is the only manufacturer to offer a 2-year warranty for the Exa-Pump®, even for racing applications, when purchased from TurboWerx, or an authorized reseller.

** Going further:
Compare for yourself. Here is a typical example of a cheaply made gear pump misapplied for the turbo oil scavenge market and the factory specification sheet for it (scroll down to page 8 for English version/temperature limits): Marco UP3/OIL Spec Sheet. Even though it's an Italian company, their pumps, like ALL the others, are Chinese-made with the lowest quality materials. The most important facts in the factory specification are:

• Maximum fluid temperature of 185F.  - This is even below the engine oil temperature before it goes through the turbo!
• Maximum ambient temperature 60C (140F).  - Just about every active part under the car is much higher than this.
• No warranty if used for turbo oil temps - Page 8 states the warranty will expire if maximum fluid temperature is exceeded!
• Page 7 states twice "discontinuous or intermittent use."- No wonder these things fail so quickly.
• Replace brushes every 2000 operating hours.   - Major maintenance every 12 months due to low-quality,  minimum-cost brushes?

VDO - Another electrical oil pump that has recently surfaced in the marketplace is the unit made by VDO. This pump is being improperly marketed on eBay out of the U.K. by seller pepperperformance1 as a "universal" turbo oil scavenge pump for aftermarket applications. This the pump was NOT designed for this - not even close. The flow specifications are woefully inadequate - LESS THAN 0.6GPM (pathetic!). TurboWerx Exa-Pumps far exceed this (by >5X), and are far more rugged. The VDO unit is known to jam easily, and fail. The VDO pump was designed for circulating engine oil through an external oil cooler - NOT as a scavenge pump (and certainly not for any pressure applications), and is way overpriced for what it does do. There is a reason the VDO unit has no warranty offered, whereas TurboWerx Exa-Pumps have a 2-year manufacturer's warranty. Once again, you have been warned.
