Huge floor vase!
Designed by Marianne Starck for Michael Andersen & Sons, Denmark

The vase is designed by Marianne Starck for the famous Danish pottery Michael Andersen & Sons on the island of Bornholm and probably made in the 1960s.

It´s made in Persia technique, a special craquelee technique developed at the Michael Andersen & Sons pottery by Daniel Andersen in the 1930s.
They won a gold medal for this at the World´s Fair in Brussel in 1935.

Beautiful decoration in cobalt blue on grey with reminescents of islamic art.

On verso marked with the MA&S hallmark a shield with 3 fishes, Bornholm Denmark and MS for Marianne Starck.

Excellent used condtion
no chips, cracks, crazing (except for the technique) or repairs - tiny glaze lot at upper rim (see image)

The pottery Michael Andersen & Sønner ( & Sons) is one of the most acknowledged potteries on Bornholm. It was founded in 1890 by ceramist Jens Michael Andersen in 1890 in the former Th. Stibolts Terracottafabrik. It closed down in 1993.

Marianne Starck (1938-2007) was the artistic leader at Michael Andersen pottery for decades. She was a graphic artist and came from Northern Germany to the pottery on the island Bornholm in the 1950s. She stayed there until it closed in 1993 and made a lot of great designs there always renewing her artistic language. A very talented and versatile artist.
