This little bunny is made from blown glass, and has an annealed blown glass hat, eyes and bow.  (Annealed is "added".) The little bunny is clear glass, while his hat, eyes and bow are colored glass.  He is small, measuring just 2 1/2" long, and 1 5/8" tall.  He is unmarked, and dates to the 1970's.  He is soooo cute, and would be wonderful as part of a Christmas Putz village, as a miniature addition to a doll's house, or just to display as a darling little Christmas bunny!

In the 1970's, there were craftsmen located in most of the malls, "blowing" glass.  They were using a technique that dates back hundreds of years called mouth blown.  They would sell all kinds of decorative pieces from the simple and small, to the large and elaborate.  They tended to like ships - the strings of glass were very adaptable to the riggings of a ship.  This little fellow dates to that era, and is mouth blown.  The glass blower has a rod on which he takes a blob of molten glass; he then uses a tube that he puts up against the blob and gently blows, while turning the rod, until he creates the shape he wants.  He (or she) then anneals the extra parts,  which on this piece would be the added tiny eyes, ears, hat and all the pieces other than the main body.  It is quite an intricate and delicate process!  The finished product, like this little fellow, has tons of charm.
