On second thoughts perhaps its not quite that simple! The bearings are probably the cheapest consumable on the entire trailer, but thinking about it you are staking the whole shebang on these items. Perhaps you are towing a boat, a caravan, an expensive motor cycle or car, or perhaps you are off on holiday to the South of France with er indoors & the billy lids. Are you going to risk all of this on a cheap set of unbranded bearings! Can you stand the heat from er indoors when the bearing collapses on the motorway?

No, of course not, what you are really looking for is a total value added package from a manufacturer who manufactures to ISO 9001 standards & is proud enough to have their name on the packaging.

You want to buy from a dealer who has tried all other bearings himself, has settled on stocking Challenge bearings because of the quality & is prepared to put his name on the line too!

You need a set of these high quality 44643/44610 & 44643L/44610 bearings from Challenge including two new split pins.

These are tapered roller bearings both the same size but one the 44643/44610 is an open roller for the outboard side of your stub axle & the other the 44643L/44610 is a sealed roller for the inboard side of your stub axle. 

Of course no trailer bearing is going to last forever, & towing such a high value cargo, what you need is a plan to replace the bearings on a regular basis to ensure peace of mind.

Trailer bearing life is very dependant on rolling speed, load carried & service.

In general the higher the loading & speed the shorter the bearing life.

If you are immersing your trailer in water, then service life will again be shortened, especially if you immerse your trailer when the bearings are warm as water shall be sucked in past the grease seals.

In short, run with Challenge bearings & have a change out plan to suit your individual use & you should never see a road side breakdown again.
