A matrix is defined as a properly contoured piece of metal or other material used to support and give form to the restoration during its placement and hardening. Metal bands secured around the crown of a tooth to confine the restorative material filling a cavity. The primary function of the matrix is to restore anatomical contours and contact areas. They are all designed to be placed between the tooth being restored and the adjacent tooth to help create the outside contour of the restorative material. Our Aver® Matrix Bands are used to form the interproximal surfaces when fabricating a direct restoration. They are placed for interproximal restorations to aid in restoring normal contour and contact areas and to prevent extrusion of restorative materials into gingival tissues.
