Probably GROSS or GROSZ, Probably Ruby or Rudy, Possibly Middle Initial S. - French, Italian, European, British, Continental or American Expatriate School, circa 1940's: City Square with Fountain, Column, Early Autos and Stylish Passers-By, gouache on paper or illustration paperboard, 5 7/8 x 8 3/4 inches (14 1/2 x 17 1/2 x 7/8 inches framed), signed lower right indistinctly possibly Ruby Gross, Ruby S. Gross, Rudy Gross, Rudy Grosz, etc. Framed in original or vintage painted molding.

Miami estate sale, 2015. 

Condition:

Paint is in sound as discovered in a Miami estate sale condition. No visible craquelure. Scattered areas without background pigment appear to be part of the artist's light impasto plein air bravura brushwork. Vintage painted frame has a crack at upper left and edge wear. Mat is very poor, acidified, with heavy foxing and staining requiring replacement prior to exhibition. Not examined out of framing - expect some margin issues typical of old matting. Unknown if laid down. Work itself quite nice
