À l'occasion de la sortie très attendue du troisième tome de la série Zoo, Frank Pé a réalisé un dessin inédit pour la collection ' Estampe ' de Champaka. Ce grand maître du dessin animalier et des couleurs chaleureuses y met en scène deux personnages phare de ' Zoo '. ' Manon et la panthère font partie de l'idée de départ. En cours de route j'ai essayé avec un tigre, mais ca ne fonctionnait pas : la tête était trop royale, les lignes du pelage trop dynamiques. ' Pour le félin protecteur, Frank précise avoir été motivé par ' le phantasme de caresser le ventre d'une panthère. Ces poils ont l'air si doux, si accueillants, si protecteurs ! ' L'exquise Manon est mise en scène au coeur d'une composition qui n'aurait pas pu voir le jour auparavant : ' L'idée d'y adjoindre les ' cordelettes ' dans la main de Manon, c'est comme mettre un résumé de toute l'histoire du Zoo de Célestin dans cette image. Je trouve que c'est une des images produites autour de Zoo qui résume le mieux le personnage de Manon. '

On the occasion of the third tome of 'Zoo' series, Frank has created a new drawing to grace Champaka's 'Prints' collection. The artist's mastery of animal forms and glowing colours is demonstrated in this scene featuring two of the central figures of 'Zoo.' 'Manon and the panthère were in my mind from the very beginning. At one point along the way I considered using a tiger; I gave it a try but it didn't work - the head was too regal; the stripes of its coat had too much visual force.' In representing the protective feline, Frank maintains that he was motivated by 'the fantasy of caressing the underbelly of a panther. The fur there appears so soft, so inviting, so comforting!' The exquisite figure of Manon glows at the heart of a composition that could never have seen the light of day before then. 'The idea of showing the tiny stringed carvings in Manon's hand is, in a way, a means of representing the whole of the story of Célestin's Zoo in this image. I think it's one of the images created around the Zoo story that best sums up Manon's character.'
